What is SYSTANE ULTRA Ophthalmic Solution?

SYSTANE ULTRA Ophthalmic Solution contains Polyethylene Glycol (0.4%) and Propylene Glycol (0.3%), designed to provide fast-acting and extended relief from dry, irritated eyes. It mimics natural tears to restore moisture and soothe burning and discomfort.

This lubricant eye drop forms a protective layer over the ocular surface, helping maintain hydration, reduce redness and irritation caused by environmental factors such as screen use, wind, or seasonal dryness.

Use as needed throughout the day. Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) and blink gently. Wash hands before use and avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or surfaces to prevent contamination.

Temporary blurred vision or mild burning/stinging may occur immediately after application. Discontinue use if you experience persistent irritation or allergic reaction and consult your doctor. Use only in the affected eye; avoid contaminating other areas.

Diet and Lifestyle Advice

Diet and lifestyle advice for optimal results with SYSTANE ULTRA Ophthalmic Solution focuses on managing dry eye triggers and supporting eye health:

Daily Habits

Hydration: Drink 2-3 liters of water daily to maintain tear production and eye moisture from within.
Screen time management: Follow 20-20-20 rule (every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds) to reduce digital eye strain.
Humidify environment: Use room humidifiers in air-conditioned offices/dry climates to prevent tear evaporation.

Dietary Support

Omega-3 rich foods: Include fatty fish (salmon, mackerel), flaxseeds, walnuts 2-3 times weekly for natural tear film improvement.
Vitamin A sources: Carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, eggs support corneal health and mucus layer.
Avoid irritants: Limit caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods that can dehydrate eyes systemically.

Lifestyle Modifications

Blink consciously: Practice full blinks during screen work (average blink rate drops 60% during computer use).
Outdoor protection: Wear wraparound sunglasses and avoid direct wind/AC vents on face.
Nighttime routine: Apply warm compresses (clean cloth, warm water) for 5-10 minutes before bed to unclog meibomian glands.

Lifestyle and environmental factors play a crucial role in managing dry eye symptoms alongside SYSTANE ULTRA Ophthalmic Solution:

Screen Time Management: Prolonged use of digital devices reduces blink rate by up to 60%, leading to increased tear evaporation and dryness. Following the 20-20-20 rule, every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds helps maintain eye moisture and reduce strain.
Humidity Control: Dry indoor environments, air conditioning, and heating exacerbate tear evaporation. Using room humidifiers or placing water basins near heating sources can maintain ambient humidity and improve comfort.
Nutritional Support: Diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish like salmon and flaxseeds), vitamin A (carrots, spinach), and antioxidants supports tear film stability and ocular surface health.
Protective Measures: Wearing wraparound sunglasses outdoors shields eyes from wind and UV rays, reducing surface dryness and irritation.
Hydration: Adequate water intake ensures systemic hydration, indirectly benefiting tear production and eye surface moisture.
