Introduction About FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET

FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET is a diuretic (water pill) containing chlorthalidone. It is used to manage hypertension (high blood pressure) and edema (fluid retention) caused by conditions such as heart failure, liver disease, kidney disease and lung disease that works by increasing urine production, which helps eliminate excess water and salt from the body, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing swelling.

FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET helps your body get rid of excess water by increasing urine production and may be prescribed alone or with other medications. It should be taken during the day to reduce frequent urination at night. Always follow your doctor’s instructions regarding dose and duration, and do not stop the medication suddenly without consulting your doctor, as this could cause your blood pressure to rise again and increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel unwell, so regular use and monitoring are important to reduce complications.

Regular blood pressure monitoring is essential while taking this medication, as it forms just one part of an overall management plan. Alongside FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET, managing high blood pressure should also include maintaining a healthy diet, engaging in regular physical activity, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol consumption, and achieving a healthy weight. You can continue your usual diet while on this medicine, but it is advisable to limit your salt intake.

Common side effects of FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET include headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness, frequent urination, dry mouth, low blood pressure, and low potassium or electrolyte imbalance. If these effects are troublesome, consult your doctor. Before starting this medication, inform your doctor if you have any kidney or liver problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should seek medical advice before taking this medicine. Also, let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking before starting FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET.

Uses Of FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET

Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Edema (fluid retention)

Benefits of FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET

1)Reduces high blood pressure (hypertension): FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET helps lower elevated blood pressure, which can reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications.

2)Decreases excess fluid in the body (edema): This medicine promotes the removal of extra water and salt through urine, effectively treating swelling caused by heart failure, kidney, liver, or lung conditions.

3)Supports heart health: By controlling blood pressure and reducing fluid overload, FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET helps ease the workload on the heart and supports overall cardiovascular health.

4)Can be used alone or with other medications: FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET may be prescribed by your doctor as a single therapy or in combination with other antihypertensive medicines for better blood pressure control.

5)Part of a comprehensive treatment plan: For best results, FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET should be used alongside lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, reducing salt intake, quitting smoking, moderating alcohol consumption, and maintaining a healthy weight. Regular blood pressure monitoring is also important.

How FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET Works

FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET contains chlorthalidone, a thiazide-like diuretic, which works primarily by increasing the excretion of sodium and water from the body through the kidneys.

Mechanism of Action of FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET

Chlorthalidone inhibits the Na?/Cl? symporter in the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney, reducing the reabsorption of sodium and chloride. This action leads to increased elimination of sodium, chloride, and water in urine, thereby decreasing the overall fluid volume in the body.

Role of Chlorthalidone in FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET

Chlorthalidone is the active ingredient in FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET. Its primary role is to treat high blood pressure and edema by promoting diuresis (increased urine production) and reducing fluid overload.

Understanding the Diuretic Effect

The diuretic effect of chlorthalidone means it helps the body remove excess water and salt, which lowers blood pressure and reduces swelling. This effect is particularly useful in managing conditions like hypertension, heart failure, and fluid retention due to kidney or liver disorders.

FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET and Electrolyte Balance

By increasing sodium excretion, chlorthalidone also causes the body to lose potassium and, to a lesser extent, magnesium and chloride, potentially leading to electrolyte imbalances such as low potassium (hypokalemia) and low sodium (hyponatremia). Regular monitoring of electrolyte levels is recommended during management.

Impact on Blood Pressure and Fluid Levels

Initially, FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET lowers blood pressure by reducing plasma and extracellular fluid volume, which decreases cardiac output. Over time, the main effect is a sustained reduction in peripheral vascular resistance, helping to maintain lower blood pressure even after fluid levels stabilize. By reducing fluid overload, it also eases symptoms of edema and supports cardiovascular health.

How to use FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET

Follow your doctor's instructions regarding the exact dosage. Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage.

Recommended Dosage

The typical starting dose for hypertension is 12.5 mg to 25 mg once daily, adjusted based on your doctor’s advice and your response to management. For edema, the dose may range from 25 mg to 50 mg daily.

Administration Guidelines

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew it. Take it at the same time each day for best results. FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET can be taken with or without food, but consistency is important.

Best Time to Take FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET

Take the tablet during the daytime, preferably in the morning, to avoid frequent urination at night. Avoid taking it within four hours of bedtime.

What if I forgot to take FLOTHAL 6.25MG TABLET

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one, do not double up to make up for it.
