Description
The Sterimed Nasopharyngeal Airway is a medical device intended to secure an open airway by being inserted through the nasal passage. It is designed for use in emergencies and for patients who are unconscious or semi-conscious to ensure a clear path for breathing. Made from soft, medical-grade PVC, it is anatomically shaped to adapt to the nasal passage, reducing discomfort during insertion. A flared proximal end prevents the device from being inserted too far into the nose.
Anatomical Design: The airway is crafted from soft, non-irritant PVC that conforms to the natural shape of the nasal passage, with a smooth, thin-walled structure to minimize trauma during insertion. Kink-Resistant Material: It is designed to resist kinking or collapsing, which helps maintain a clear and uninterrupted pathway for oxygenation. Rotatable Flange: A flange at the end simplifies securing the device and allows for easy adjustment and removal, which is crucial in critical situations. Sterile and Single-Use: Each airway is sterilized with Ethylene Oxide (E.T.O.), is pyrogen-free, and intended for single use only to prevent cross-contamination. Beveled Tip: The soft, rounded, and beveled tip is designed for atraumatic insertion.
Q: What is a nasopharyngeal airway?
A: A nasopharyngeal airway is a tube inserted into the nasal passageway to secure an open airway, particularly when a person is unconscious or semi-conscious. It helps prevent the tongue from obstructing the airway.
Q: Who should insert this device?
A: This device should only be inserted by a qualified healthcare professional who is trained in airway management and understands the relevant anatomy and procedures.
Q: What is this airway made of?
A: This Sterimed nasopharyngeal airway is crafted from a soft, non-irritant, medical-grade PVC material designed to conform to the nasal passage.
Q: Is this product sterile and reusable?
A: The airway is E.T.O. sterile and intended for single use only to eliminate the risk of cross-contamination.
Q: How is the correct size for a patient determined?
A: A common guideline for selecting the proper size is to measure the distance from the tip of the patient's nose to their earlobe. However, a healthcare professional will make the final determination.

Key Benefits
Maintains a patent airway in patients who are unable to maintain it on their own. Bypasses upper airway obstructions at the level of the nose, nasopharynx, or the base of the tongue. Better tolerated than oropharyngeal airways in patients with an intact gag reflex. Allows for nasotracheal suctioning when needed. Useful when access to the oral cavity is limited due to conditions like lockjaw or facial trauma.

Direction for Use/Dosage
This product is intended for use by a qualified doctor or healthcare professional only. Select the appropriate size, typically measured from the side of the nostril to the tragus of the ear. Moisten the tip of the airway with a water-soluble lubricant to ease insertion. Gently insert the tube into a nostril, following the natural curve of the nasal passage floor. Advance the airway until the flange rests against the nostril. Do not force the device if resistance is met.

If resistance is met during insertion, do not force it; try the other nostril. Any blocked or occluded device should be removed immediately.
