    Introduction About SPYE TABLET

    SPYE TABLET contains Spiramycin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage infections in respiratory tract, oral cavity, skin and soft tissues caused by certain bacteria and parasites. It is also used to manage infections like gonorrhoea (sexually transmitted infection that causes painful urination and abnormal discharge) in individuals allergic to the Penicillin medicine as well as used to manage toxoplasmosis infection (caused by toxoplasma gondii parasite seen in cat faeces and contaminated food) in pregnant women.

    Symptoms of toxoplasmosis are muscle pain, headache and fever and it may cause abortion or make baby to born too early before completion of pregnancy period.

    Before taking SPYE TABLET, your doctor will do few blood tests to determine the exact cause of infection. Inform your doctor if you are suffering from either impaired liver function or abnormal heart rate problems.

    SPYE TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 6 years and in patients suffering from meningitis (infection of brain with symptoms of fever and severe headache).

    SPYE TABLET should be used in caution in pregnant and breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    The most common side effects of taking SPYE TABLET includes nausea, vomiting, numbness and itching in skin, inflamed bowels. Contact your physician immediately if any of the symptoms worsen with time like chest pain, blood in urine and faeces, dizziness, hypersensitive rashes in skin.

    Uses Of SPYE TABLET

    Used to manage:

    • bacterial infections of the respiratory tract, oral cavity, skin and soft tissues
    • gonorrhoea in patients allergic to penicillin medicine
    • toxoplasmosis in pregnant women

    How SPYE TABLET Works

    SPYE TABLET is a macrolide antibiotic that works by blocking protein synthesis of disease-causing bacteria/parasite. This leads to management of growth of bacteria/parasite in the body and helps to reduce the infection and its symptoms.

    How to use SPYE TABLET

    Take SPYE TABLET exactly as advised by your doctor. It is advised to swallow the medicine with a glass of water and should be taken preferably after meals.

    Do not stop taking SPYE TABLET before doctor’s advice even if you feel better. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of infection.

    Side Effects Of SPYE TABLET

    Common

    • nausea
    • vomiting
    • loose stools
    • numbness and itching in skin

    Rare

    • abnormal liver function tests
    • haemolytic anaemia
    • low WBC count

    Stop taking SPYE TABLET and immediately contact your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms.

    • pain in the chest
    • blood in urine and stool
    • increased heart rate
    • prolonged dizziness (feeling faint)
    • severe body rashes
    • swollen face and throat
    • skin with rashes, blisters, pain along with fever (Steven-Johnson syndrome)
    • occurrence of areas with redness and swelling on body along with fever (skin condition called acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Nausea and Vomiting:

    Avoid eating fried and greasy food. Take simple, light, small meals at frequent intervals. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of fluids.

    Diarrhea:

    Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids and consult your doctor before taking any medication.

    Itchy skin:

    Do not rub or scratch your skin as it will make it worse. Apply any moisturizers like oil or calamine lotion. Consult doctor if it worsens with time.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    SPYE TABLET should be used in caution if you are pregnant. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Breastfeeding

    SPYE TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breast feeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    SPYE TABLET should be used in caution in patients suffering from impaired liver function. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Allergy

    Do not take SPYE TABLET if you are allergic to Spiramycin or any other macrolide antibiotics.

    Heart Disease

    SPYE TABLET should be taken in caution in patients with heart rate disturbances which may cause cardiac arrest (sudden unexpected loss of heart function, consciousness and breathing). Consult your doctor before taking.

    Others

    SPYE TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • are suffering from meningitis

    Before taking SPYE TABLET inform your doctor if you are:

    • having G6PD enzyme deficiency (rare hereditary disease with symptoms of not feeling well, pale skin appearance and difficulty in breathing)
    • suffering an imbalance in blood electrolyte levels (blood test results showing low values compared to normal for elements like sodium and potassium)

    Use in pediatrics:

    SPYE TABLET is not recommended in newborns and children under 6 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Use in geriatrics:

    SPYE TABLET is not recommended in elderly patients over 65 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking SPYE TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking following medicines.

    • medicine used for management of Parkinson’s disease (Ex. levodopa, carbidopa)
    • medicines which delay or manage clotting called anticoagulants (Ex. warfarin)
    • medicines used for mental problems like antipsychotics. (Ex. chlorpromazine)
    • medicines which prolong the QT interval (Ex. erythromycin, antimalarial drugs like chloroquine)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally took more of SPYE TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are abdominal discomfort, nausea, loose stools.
