    Introduction About SOLET 40MG TABLET

    SOLET 40MG TABLET contains Sotalol which belongs to the group of medicines called Beta-blockers. It is used to manage irregular heartbeats.

    SOLET 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with asthma, kidney failure, low blood pressure, unmanageed heart failure, recent heart attack, very slow heartbeat. SOLET 40MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems, diabetes, overactive thyroid. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    SOLET 40MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless it is considered necessary. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    SOLET 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    The most common side effects of taking SOLET 40MG TABLET are headache, feeling tired, dizziness, weakness, cold fingers or toes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

    How SOLET 40MG TABLET Works

    SOLET 40MG TABLET works by slowing down your heart rate and makes it easier for your heart to pump blood around the body.

    How to use SOLET 40MG TABLET

    Take SOLET 40MG TABLET as advised by your physician. It can be taken with or without food. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking it unless your doctor advice you to stop.

    Side Effects Of SOLET 40MG TABLET

    Common

    • irregular heartbeat, slow heartbeat, heart failure, chest pain, low blood pressure, trouble breathing, swelling, fainting and palpitations
    • nausea, vomiting, indigestion, stomach pain, flatulence, diarrhea
    • anxiety, depression, mood changes
    • headache, light-headedness, dizziness, general weakness, tiredness
    • sleep problems
    • tingling or cold feet and hands
    • sexual dysfunction
    • fever, rash
    • problems with vision and hearing
    • changes in taste

    Rare

    Stop taking SOLET 40MG TABLET and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue and/or throat with difficulty in swallowing or breathing

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache:

    Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if your headache did not improve.

    Dizziness:

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operate any machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not drink alcohol as it increases dizziness. Contact your doctor if your dizziness did not improve.

    Nausea and vomiting:

    Take SOLET 40MG TABLET, with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea and vomiting did not improve.

    Stomach pain:

    Try to have smaller meals but take frequently. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. Do not self-manage and contact your doctor if the stomach pain did not improve.

    Skin rash:

    Avoid hot bath because hot water can irritate your skin further. Do not scratch the affected area. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing while going outside. Use unscented moisturizers to soothe and hydrate the affected area. Contact your doctor if your rashes worsen.

    Flatulence:

    Eat smaller and frequent meals. Eat and drink slowly and exercise regularly. If the flatulence does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if your diarrhoea did not improve.

    Pregnancy

    SOLET 40MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless it is considered necessary. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    SOLET 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizziness or light-headedness after taking SOLET 40MG TABLET.

    Alcohol

    Moderate amounts of alcohol will not affect SOLET 40MG TABLET, however you should check with your doctor first to see if drinking is advisable for you.

    Kidney

    SOLET 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use patients with kidney failure. It should be used with caution in patients with other kidney problems and may require dose adjustment. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    SOLET 40MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Do not take SOLET 40MG TABLET if you are allergic to Sotalol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    SOLET 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with asthma, attacks of wheezing or any other lung disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Heart Disease

    SOLET 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with low blood pressure, unmanageed heart failure, recent heart attack, very slow heartbeat, sick sinus syndrome (a type of heart rhythm disorder), second and third degree AV block, unless a functioning pacemaker is present, congenital or acquired long QT syndromes (abnormal heart rhythm), cardiogenic shock. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Others

    SOLET 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • have unmanageed tumour near your kidney)
    • have metabolic acidosis (too much acid in the body)
    • have Raynaud’s syndrome (a condition causing white or purple discolouration of the hands and feet)
    • have severe circulation disorders
    • have hypokalemia (low blood potassium levels) or hypomagnesemia (low blood magnesium levels)

    Before taking SOLET 40MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • have diabetes (high blood sugar)
    • have an overactive thyroid gland
    • have diarrhea
    • have psoriasis (itchy, red, sore patches of skin)
    • are about to have any surgery
    • are scheduled to have a urine test

    Use in Pediatrics:

    SOLET 40MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    SOLET 40MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients due to decreased kidney function and may require dose adjustment. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking SOLET 40MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • medicines used to manage heart conditions like high blood pressure, heart failure or irregular heartbeat (Ex. digoxin, amiodarone, verapamil, disopyramide, quinidine, procainamide, bepridil, diltiazem, furosemide, reserpine, guanethidine, alpha methyldopa)
    • medicines used to manage depression, anxiety, nervous disorders and mental disturbances Ex.  methyldopa, amitriptyline, chlorpromazine, fluphenazine
    • medicines used to manage allergies (Ex. terfenadine, astemizole)
    • medicines used to manage infections (Ex. erythromycin, ofloxacin, moxifloxacin)
    • halofantrine (used to manage malaria)
    • amphotericin B, pentamidine (used to manage fungal infections)
    • floctafenine (used for the short-term management of mild to moderate pain)
    • steroids (medicines used to manage inflammation) Ex. hydrocortisone, prednisolone
    • laxative (medicines used to manage constipation) Ex. magnesium hydroxide
    • clonidine (used to manage hot flushes or headaches)
    • medicines used to manage diabetes (Ex. insulin, glyburide, metformin)
    • neuromuscular Blocking Agents (medicines used in anesthesia) Ex. tubocurarine
    • medicines used to manage asthma and other lung diseases (Ex. salbutamol, terbutaline, isoprenaline)
    • antacids (used to manage indigestion, heartburn) Ex. aluminum oxide and magnesium hydroxide

    Overdose:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of SOLET 40MG TABLET, contact your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage include slow heart rate, congestive heart failure, low blood pressure, difficulty in breathing, low blood glucose, dizziness, trembling, cardiac asystole (cessation of heartbeat), prolongation of QT interval (abnormal heart rhythm), Torsade’s de Pointes, ventricular tachycardia (very fast heartbeat) and premature ventricular complexes (a type of irregular heartbeats).

    A: SOLET 40MG TABLET may cause heart failure in some patients. Contact your doctor immediately if experience chest pain or discomfort, dilated neck veins, extreme fatigue, difficulty in breathing, an irregular heartbeat, swelling of the face, fingers, fee or lower legs or weight gain.

    Q: How often can I take SOLET 40MG TABLET?

    A: Take SOLET 40MG TABLET according to the doctor’s advice. Generally, it is taken once or twice daily. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Q: How long does it take SOLET 40MG TABLET to work?

    A: SOLET 40MG TABLET starts to work after about 4 hours of administration, but it can take 2 to 3 days to show its full effects. Contact your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.

    A: If you need to have surgery, you should inform your doctor that you are taking SOLET 40MG TABLET as it can affect anaesthetics (medicines used to make you feel insensitive to pain). You may have to stop taking this medicine before surgery and it should be slowly stopped over a period of one week. Your doctor will tell you if this is needed.

    Q: What if I forget to take a dose of SOLET 40MG TABLET?

    A: If you forget to take a dose of SOLET 40MG TABLET, take it as soon as you remember. However, omit the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take the medicine twice to make up for a forgotten dose.
