Introduction About RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE contains Indomethacin, which belongs to the group of medicines called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. It is used to reduce swelling and manage moderate to severe inflammatory diseases of the joints (such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and degenerative hip disease), pain & stiffness in the backbone (ankylosing spondylitis).
It also manages sprains & strains, post-operative pain, lower back pain, pain due to periods, gout (joint pain), and acute painful shoulder (such as bursitis, tendinitis). During management with RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE, your doctor might advise you to take certain tests.
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with angioneurotic oedema (condition marked by swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat), have or had signs of peptic ulcer/bleeding in the stomach/intestine (black tarry stools), nasal obstruction (due to nasal polyps), severe liver, kidney, or heart problems.
Before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE inform your doctor if you have a history of high blood pressure or congestive heart failure, bleeding or blood clotting disorder, mental health problem, epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease (tremor, stiffness and shuffling) or severe infection.
Also inform your doctor if you have fluid retention which may be caused by diseases of the heart or kidneys, history of asthma, gastrointestinal diseases (ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), diabetes, problem with the circulation in the legs, decreased amount of fluid in body or are going to have surgery.
Avoid consumption of alcohol during management with RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE. RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant women (especially during the last 3 months of pregnancy) and in breastfeeding women.
This medicine is not recommended for use in children aged below 14 years. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. The most common side effect of taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE is a mild headache. Contact your doctor if the symptoms worsen.
Uses Of RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE
It is used to reduce swelling and manage:
- moderate to severe inflammatory diseases of the joints (such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis and degenerative hip disease)
- pain & stiffness in the backbone (ankylosing spondylitis)
- sprains & strains (such as acute muscle and bone disorders)
- lower back pain
- pain & swelling following muscle/ bone surgery
- pain due to menstruation
- gout (joint pain)
- acute painful shoulder (such as bursitis, tendinitis)
How RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE Works
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE works by managing the function of enzyme cyclooxygenase-1 and 2 which leads to the stopping of prostaglandins synthesis (chemical substances responsible for pain & inflammation) that results in reduced inflammatory reactions and relief from pain.
How to use RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE
Take RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE with a glass of water/milk, with or immediately after food. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight, and disease condition.
Side Effects Of RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE
Common
- mild headache

- ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
- difficulty having a bowel movement
- discouragement, feeling sad or empty
- general feeling of discomfort or illness
- hearing loss
- irritability
- loss of interest or pleasure
- sleepiness, trouble concentrating
Rare
- anxiety
- bloated or full feeling
- excess air or gas in the stomach or intestines
- feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
- involuntary muscle movements
- light-headedness
- sensation of spinning
- tiredness
- trouble sleeping
- trouble with speaking
Stop taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of bleeding in the stomach such as blood in feces, blood vomit or dark particles that look like coffee grounds
- signs of an allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing/swallowing, asthma, sudden decrease in blood pressure, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
- indigestion/heartburn
- abdominal pain or other abnormal symptoms such as vomit, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, inflammation of the stomach lining, small intestine or mouth, perforation of previous intestinal damage, blockage in the intestine
- signs of abnormal liver function/liver disease such as jaundice, inflammation of the liver causing weakness, loss of appetite, weight loss, abdominal pain, fever
- serious skin reactions such as itching, pale or red irregular raised patches with severe itching (hives), blood spots, bruising and discolouration of the skin, blisters/red skin, peeling and swelling of the skin that resembles severe burns, erythema multiforme (circular, irregular red patches on the skin of the hands and arms), Stevens-Johnson syndrome (a severe form of skin rash with flushing, fever, blisters or ulcers),
- aseptic meningitis (stiff neck, headache, feeling or being sick, fever, disorientation)
How To Manage Side Effects
Headache:
Apply a hot or cold-water bag on your head. Try to rest in a quiet and dark room. Massage on the scalp or head with mild pressure. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve.
Warning & Precautions

Pregnancy
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE is not recommended for use during the last three months of pregnancy.
It can be used with caution during the first six months of pregnancy if recommended by your doctor.

Breastfeeding
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any machines while taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE as it may cause drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness or vision problems. Consult your doctor before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE as it may increase the risk of ulcers and bleeding in the stomach.

Kidney
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems or advanced renal disease.
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment. Consult your doctor before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE.

Liver
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver problems. RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with hepatic impairment. Consult your doctor before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE.

Allergy
Do not take RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE if you are allergic to Indomethacin or any other ingredient of this medicine, or other NSAIDS such as aspirin, ibuprofen. Consult your doctor before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE.

Lungs
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with lung problems such as asthma. Consult your doctor before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE.

Heart Disease
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with severe heart problems. RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with heart problems such as high blood pressure, congestive heart failure. Consult your doctor for advice.
Others
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you:
- are suffering from angioneurotic oedema (a condition marked by swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)
- have or had signs of peptic ulcer or bleeding in the stomach/intestine such as vomit that look like coffee grounds, black tarry stools and blood in your faeces
- have nasal obstruction due to nasal polyps
Before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:
- are undergoing investigation for infertility
- have a history of high blood pressure
- have mental health problems
- have signs of Parkinson’s disease, such as tremor, stiffness, and rigidity
- have an infection or sepsis (severe infection)
- have or had a history of gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease
- have systemic lupus erythematosus (an allergic skin reaction) or other connective tissue disorders
- have diabetes
- have signs of extracellular volume depletion (reduced amount of fluid around the cells of the body) such as fatigue, confusion, muscle cramps, chest pain
- have peripheral arterial disease (problem with blood circulation in the legs)
- have a history of stomach ulcers
- have high cholesterol
- are a smoker
- are planning to undergo surgery
- have epilepsy
- have bleeding or blood clotting disorder
Use in pediatrics:
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 14 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE.
Use in geriatrics:
RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE should be taken with caution in elderly patients due to the increased risk of side effects. The dose will be adjusted by your doctor. Consult your doctor before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE.
Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before taking RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (medicines used to reduce inflammation and relieve pain) Ex. aspirin, naproxen, celecoxib, diflunisal, methotrexate
- quinolone antibiotics (medicine used to manage infections Ex. ciprofloxacin)
- medicines used for blood thinning or manage blood clotting (Ex. warfarin, clopidogrel)
- medicines used to manage depression, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (Ex. fluoxetine), haloperidol, lithium (a medicine used to manage mental illness)
- medicines used to manage diabetes (Ex. metformin, gliclazide)
- phenytoin (medicine used to manage epilepsy)
- diazepam (a medicine used to manage anxiety, alcohol withdrawal, seizures and muscle spasm)
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure such as alpha-blockers (Ex. prazosin), beta blockers (Ex. atenolol), ACE inhibitors (Ex. lisinopril), angiotensin II receptor antagonists (Ex. valsartan), hydralazine or nifedipine, diuretics (Ex. triamterene, furosemide), thiazides (Ex. bendroflumethiazide), cardiac glycosides (used to manage heart failure, Ex. digoxin)
- medicines used to manage HIV infection (Ex. zalcitabine, zidovudine or ritonavir)
- medicines used to suppress the immune system and manage graft rejection (Ex. ciclosporin, tacrolimus or muromonab-CD3)
- antacids (medicines used to manage stomach acid and heartburn, Ex. aluminium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide)
- corticosteroids (used to manage various allergic and inflammatory disorders, Ex. prednisolone)
- methotrexate or cyclophosphamide (medicines used to manage rheumatoid arthritis and certain types of cancer)
- desmopressin (medicine used to manage diabetes insipidus and urinary incontinence)
- mifepristone (a medicine used to terminate pregnancy)
- baclofen (a medicine used as a muscle relaxant)
- pentoxifylline (used to manage blood vessel disease and leg ulcers)
- probenecid (a medicine used to manage gout)
- tiludronic acid (a medicine used to manage Paget’s disease of bone)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else has accidentally taken too much of RUXOCAP 25 CAPSULE, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Signs and symptoms of overdose may include headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, bleeding in the stomach/intestines, diarrhoea, disorientation, excitement, coma, drowsiness, dizziness, ringing/buzzing in the ears, fainting, fits/seizures, acute kidney/renal failure, liver damage.
