Introduction About PREVENAR 7 INJECTION
PREVENAR 7 INJECTION contains Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Serotypes (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F) conjugated with non-toxic diphtheria CRM197 protein. It is used in infants and toddlers (from 6 weeks to 5 years) to manage invasive diseases and otitis media caused by specific streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes. It is used in children and adolescents (from 6 years to 17 years) to manage invasive diseases caused by specific streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes. It is used in adults (above 18 years) to manage pneumonia and invasive diseases caused by specific streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes.
Streptococcus pneumoniae, or pneumococcus, is a bacteria that may cause certain invasive diseases such as sepsis, meningitis, pleural empyema, and bacteremia. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition developed due to the extreme response of the body to the infection, which is characterised by symptoms such as confusion, dizziness, and diarrhoea.
Meningitis is the infection of the membranes covering the brain, which is characterised by symptoms such as fever, headache, and stiff neck. Pleural empyema is a lung infection that causes pus formation in the membrane covering the lungs and is characterised by symptoms such as chest pain, dry cough, and fever. Bacteraemia is an infection of the blood that is characterised by symptoms such as fever, chills, and low blood pressure.
Otitis media is an infection occurring in the middle ear, which is characterised by symptoms such as pain in the ears, headaches, and fever. Pneumonia is an infection occurring in the air sacs of one or both lungs that is characterised by symptoms such as fever, chills, and shortness of breath.
PREVENAR 7 INJECTION is not recommended for use if you are allergic to pneumococcal polysaccharide serotypes or diphtheria toxoids. It should be used with caution in patients with chronic liver disease, chronic kidney disease, and nephrotic disease.
PREVENAR 7 INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is not recommended for use in children (below 6 weeks). PREVENAR 7 INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or above). Consult your doctor before receiving it.
The common side effects associated with the use of PREVENAR 7 INJECTION are reactions at the site of injection (such as redness, swelling, and tenderness), limitations in the injected limb, mild to moderate fever, irritability, decreased appetite, increased sleep, or decreased sleep. Contact your doctor or a nearby hospital if any of the conditions worsens or persists.

How PREVENAR 7 INJECTION Works
PREVENAR 7 INJECTION helps to manage diseases caused by specific streptococcus pneumonia serotypes where the Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine stimulates the production of certain neutralizing antibodies that bind to the virus and manage it from infecting cells thus providing protection from the infection to be caused by specific streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes in future.
How to use PREVENAR 7 INJECTION
PREVENAR 7 INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a muscle as an intramuscular injection in the anterolateral aspect of the thigh in infants or the deltoid muscle (a muscle in the upper arm) in children and adults. Avoid injecting the vaccine in the gluteal area or areas where major nerve trunks and/or blood vessels can be located. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of PREVENAR 7 INJECTION
Common
- reactions at the site of injection such as redness, swelling, and tenderness

Uncommon

Stop receiving PREVENAR 7 INJECTION and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- signs of anaphylactic reactions such as severe rashes, shortness of breath, and noisy breathing
- bronchiolitis (inflammation and congestion in small airways of the lungs)
- gastroenteritis (inflammation in stomach and intestines)
- pneumonia (inflammation in lungs particularly air sacs)
How To Manage Side Effects
Headache
Take rest and drink plenty of water. Avoid drinking alcohol and skipping meals. Do not strain your eyes by watching the screen for a long time. Consult your doctor if the condition persists for a long time or gets worse.
Muscle Cramps
Stay active and try to do your daily activities. Use ice or heat packs on the affected area to reduce pain and swelling. Try doing specific exercises and stretches for the painful region of the body.
Nausea And Vomiting
Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Get a lot of rest. Avoid drinking coffee, alcohol, or smoking. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
