Introduction About PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS
PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS contains Cephalexin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage bacterial infections of the breathing tract (Ex. tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and bronchitis), middle ear (otitis media), skin and soft tissue, bone and joints, reproductive organs, and urinary tract (cystitis, prostatitis).
PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS can also be used to manage dental infections. Bacterial infections are usually characterized by fever, extreme tiredness, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, groin or elsewhere, headache, nausea or vomiting.
Before taking PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS, inform your doctor if you have any kidney problems or if you are due for a blood or urine test as PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS may interfere with these tests.
PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women so, contact your doctor before taking it. PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS can be used in children, however, your doctor will decide the exact dose and duration of the medicine for your child.
The most common side effect of taking PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS is diarrhea. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms are getting worse.

- respiratory tract (Ex. tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and bronchitis)

PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that shows bactericidal action (kills the bacteria) by inhibiting the formation of bacterial cell wall.
How to use PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS
Take PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS as advised by your physician. Add advised amount of water slowly, then replace the cap back. Shake it well, discard the cap and fit the dropper. Dose and duration of PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS will be decided by your physician depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS
Common
- diarrhoea
Rare
- transient hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice (yellowish discolouration of skin and eyes)
Stop taking PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- allergic reaction
- acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (red scaly widespread rash with bumps under the skin and blisters along with fever at the beginning of the management)
How To Manage Side Effects
Diarrhea:
Have plenty of fluids like water or fruit juice to maintain hydration. If symptom persists, contact your doctor.

PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS should be used with caution in pregnant women. Contact your doctor before taking it.
Breastfeeding
PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it is excreted in human milk. Contact your doctor before taking it.
Driving and Using Machines
PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS does not affect your ability to drive or operate machines.
Kidney
PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS should be used with caution in patients with markedly impaired kidney function. Contact your doctor before taking it.
Liver
There is no relevant information about the use of PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS in liver patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Allergy
Do not take PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS if you are allergic to cephalexin, other cephalosporins, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Others
Before taking PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS tell your doctor if you:
- are due for a blood or urine test
- have penicillin sensitivity

Use in Geriatrics:
PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS should be used with caution in elderly patients, as they are more likely to have reduced kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking it
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- other medicines used for bacterial infections (Ex. gentamicin, tobramycin, cefuroxime, colistin)
- water tablets used to manage water retention (Ex. furosemide, ethacrynic acid)
- probenecid (used to manage gout)
- metformin (used to manage diabetes)
- polymyxin (used to manage fungal infections)
- medicines used to manage leukaemia (Ex. daunorubicin, cytarabine)
- medicines used for blood thinning (Ex. rivaroxaban, dabigatran)
- live typhoid vaccine
- medicines used to manage pregnancy (Ex. estradiol, progestin)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, distress in upper abdomen, diarrhoea and blood in urine.

Can PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS cause diarrhea?
Yes. Diarrhea is a common problem caused by antibiotics like PHEXIN PAEDIATRIC DROPS and usually resolves when the medicine is discontinued. Sometimes, frequent watery or bloody diarrhea may occur and may be a sign of a more serious bowel infection. In case you experience anything like that, contact your doctor.
