    Introduction About PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION

    PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION contains Pegfilgrastim which belongs to the group of medicines called Colony stimulating factors. It is used to manage the destruction of white blood cells (WBC) in blood that is caused due to chemotherapy. It reduces the occurrence of neutropenia (low WBC count in blood) and febrile neutropenia (low WBC count in blood with fever) among patients receiving chemotherapy.

    Talk to your doctor before receiving PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION if you have any problems in your lungs or with blood circulation. You must also inform your doctor if you are allergic to Pegfilgrastim or filgrastim or have breast cancer, lung cancer or anemia as a precaution

The most common side effects of receiving PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION are bone pain, nausea, headache, skin rashes, pain, redness and discomfort at the site of injection and muscle pain.     How PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION Works

    PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION works by stimulating the bone marrow to produce more white blood cells. It also enhances the survival of the white blood cells by protecting it against the harmful effects of chemotherapy. This reduces the risk of neutropenia and its associated complications (such as fever, flu, and risk of infections) among patients receiving chemotherapy.

    How to use PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION

    PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION should be administered beneath the skin (subcutaneously). It is either administered to you by a doctor or a nurse or can be self-administered if instructed by the doctor. Carefully follow the instructions given by your doctor in case of self-administration.

    Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION

    Common

    • bone pain
    • nausea, headache
    • skin rash
    • pain, redness, bleeding or bruising at the site of injection
    • general aches and pains in the joints and muscles

    Uncommon

    • inflammation of the blood vessels in the skin
    • kidney damage
    • coughing up blood

    Rare

    Inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • signs of allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue and throat causing difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
    • signs of severe skin reactions (such as skin redness, itching, blistering and peeling or skin, red circular patches or pin-point dots with raised bumps accompanied with fever and tiredness)
    • cough, fever and difficulty in breathing
    • swelling of body parts with low urine output, difficulty in breathing, abdominal swelling and feeling of fullness, and a general feeling of tiredness (signs of Capillary Leak Syndrome)
    • signs of spleen problems (such as left upper abdominal pain or pain at the tip of shoulder)
    • blood cancer (signs include tiredness, fever, and easy bruising or bleeding)
    • signs of inflammation in the aorta (such as fever, stomach pain, tiredness, back pain and increased inflammatory markers)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Headache

    Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

    Injection Site Reactions

    Place an ice pack on the injected site. Do not move the affected area frequently. If the symptom worsens, consult your doctor.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Stick to simple meals and avoid oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if nausea worsens.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Alcohol

    Kidney

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION is not suitable for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years or older). Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Others

    Before receiving PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:

    • are allergic to latex or acrylic adhesives
    • have any problems with spleen
    • have abnormal blood count (such as high or low RBC or platelet counts)
    • have sickle cell anemia (low RBC count)
    • have breast cancer or lung cancer

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Before receiving PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION inform your doctor if you are taking any other prescription, non-prescription and over-the-counter medicines.

    Overdosage:

    PEGASTA 6MG PENFILL INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
