Introduction About OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS contains Betaxolol which belongs to the group of medicines called Beta-blockers. It is used to manage increased pressure in the eye (intraocular pressure) which can be due to glaucoma (a group of eye diseases that can cause vision loss or blindness) or ocular hypertension (high pressure in the eye).
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in patients with asthma, chronic obstructive bronchitis, slow heartbeat, heart failure or irregular heartbeats. Consult your doctor before using it.
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS should be used with caution in patients with coronary heart disease, low blood pressure, diabetes, hyperthyroidism. Consult your doctor before using it.
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before using it.
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in children. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. The most common side effects of using OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS are eye discomfort, blurred vision, watery eyes and headache. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms worsen.

How OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS Works
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS works by lowering intraocular pressure (fluid pressure in your eyes) by reducing the rate of production of aqueous humour (clear liquid inside the eye). Thus, helps to manage glaucoma and ocular hypertension effectively.
How to use OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS
Use OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS as advised by your doctor. It is for ophthalmic use only. Tilt your head backwards, pull the lower eyelid gently downwards and hold the bottle upside down above the eye and dispense drops with gentle pressure. Avoid touching the eye (or any other surface) with the tip of the bottle. Do not stop using OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS unless your doctor tells you so.
Side Effects Of OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS
Common
- eye discomfort (feeling like something is there in the eye)
- blurred vision, watery eyes
- headache
Uncommon
- inflammation of the eye surface
- conjunctivitis (redness of eye with watery eyes and pain)
- visual impairment
- sensitivity to light
- painful, dry or tired eyes
- increased blinking, irritated, red or swollen eyes
- eye itchiness, eye discharge
- weeping eyelids, bloodshot eyes
- irregular heartbeat
- asthma, difficulty in breathing, blocked nose
- nausea
Rare
- cataract formation
- decreased sensitivity of the eye
- inflammation of the eyelid
- anxiety, difficulty sleeping
- depression
- fainting
- low blood pressure
- cough, runny nose
- altered taste
- inflamed, itchy skin or rash
- hair loss
- decreased sexual desire
Stop using OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- severe allergic reaction symptoms such as hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat causing difficulty breathing
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea:
Use this medicine with or just after a meal or a snack. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy food. Contact your doctor if your nausea did not improve.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or ORS (Oral Rehydrating Solution) and apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if your headache did not improve.

Pregnancy
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before using it.

Breastfeeding
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before using it.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any machines if you experience dizziness or any visual disturbance after using OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS.

Allergy
Do not use OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS if you are allergic to betaxolol or beta-blockers or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Lungs
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in patients having severe lung diseases such as asthma or chronic obstructive bronchitis (wheeziness, difficulty in breathing or long-standing cough). Consult your doctor before using it.

Heart Disease
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in patients having slow heartbeat, heart failure or irregular heartbeats.
It should be used with caution in patients with coronary heart disease (symptoms include chest pain or tightness, breathlessness or choking), low blood pressure (hypotension). Consult your doctor before using it.
Others
Before using OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS, inform your doctor if you:
- have myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness disease)
- have diabetes
- have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland)
- have Raynaud’s disease (poor blood circulation disease)
- have angle closure glaucoma
- have sicca syndrome (dry eyes)
- have an operation
- have corneal disorders (the clear layer at the front of the eye)
Use in pediatrics:
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor before using it.
Use in geriatrics:
OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before using it.
Interactions
A. Drug – Drug Interaction:
Before using OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- medicines used to manage high blood pressure, heart failure, angina and abnormal heartbeat (Ex. verapamil, diltiazem, propranolol, reserpine, clonidine, digoxin, quinidine)
- medicine used to manage severe allergic reaction (Ex. adrenaline)
- medicines used to manage diabetes (Ex. metformin)
- medicines to manage mental disorders such as anxiety or depression (Ex. isocarboxazid, bromazepam)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally used too much of OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS, It can be washed out of your eye with warm water. However, if you experience any signs of overdosage such as slow heart rate, drop of blood pressure, breathing difficulties and heart attack. Consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.

Q: Can I wear contact lens while using OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS?
A: OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS contains benzalkonium chloride as preservative which may be absorbed by soft contact lenses and changes the colour of the contact lenses. You should remove contact lenses before using this medicine and put them back 15 minutes afterwards.
Q: How often can I use OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS?
A: Use OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS as advised by your doctor. Instill one drop into each affected eye(s) twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. If you are using in combination with another eye drop medicine, wait 5-15 minutes before applying the second eye drop.
Q: What if I miss a dose of OPTIPRES S EYE 0.25% EYE DROPS?
A: Apply the drops as soon as you remember. But if it is the time for the next dose, you can skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. If the drop misses your eye, then try again.
