    Introduction About NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION

    NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION contains Netilmicin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to manage severe life-threatening bacterial infections affecting various parts of the body such as respiratory tract, urinary tract, genital tract, skin and soft tissues, stomach, biliary tract, blood (sepsis), brain and bones and joints.

    It can also be used prophylactically to manage bacterial infections following surgery or after any wounds or burns. It also manages and manages bacterial infections among immune compromised patients.

    NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION should be used under careful medical supervision. It is suitable for use both in adults and in children. Therapy with NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION should be continued for the stipulated duration instructed by the doctor to achieve better results. Failing to complete the full course of the therapy or skipping doses in between the therapy may not result in adequate infection control.

    Before receiving NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you have any kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have parkinsonism or any muscle problems (myasthenia gravis) as a precaution.

    Do not receive NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects of receiving NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION are swelling and irritation at the site of injection, problems in hearing or balance, headache, nausea, vomiting and weakness. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect worsens.

    Uses Of NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION

    It is used to manage severe and life-threatening bacterial infections such as:

    • Blood infections (such as bacteraemia or sepsis including sepsis in new-borns)
    • Urinary tract infections (such as cystitis and pyelonephritis)
    • Genital tract infections (Ex. gonorrhoea)
    • Skin and soft tissue infections (such as abscesses, furunculosis, impetigo, erysipelas)
    • Stomach and biliary tract infections (such as peritonitis, intra-abdominal abscess)
    • Respiratory tract infections (Ex. pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis)
    • Bone and joint infections (Ex. septic arthritis)
    • Brain infections (Ex. meningitis and ventriculitis)
    • Heart infections (Ex. endocarditis)
    • Infections of burns, wounds or injuries
    • Post-surgical infections

    How NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION Works

    NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION is a powerful antibiotic. It binds to the susceptible bacteria and stops protein synthesis in the bacterial cell which is essential for its survival. Unlike other antibiotics, it can also remain unaffected by the toxic proteins produced by the bacteria. Therefore, it destroys the susceptible bacteria and manages it from further growth and multiplication which reduces the severity of the infection.

    How to use NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION

    NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously) or into the muscle (intramuscularly).

    Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of the infection.

    Continue to receive NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION for the stipulated duration instructed by your doctor to achieve better control over infection. Failing to do so may worsen your existing condition.

    Side Effects Of NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION

    Common

    • injection site reactions (swelling or irritation)
    • headache
    • nausea, vomiting
    • weakness
    • increased blood sugar levels
    • increased liver enzymes
    • low RBC, WBC and platelet counts

    Rare

    • tiredness
    • visual disturbances
    • hypotension (low blood pressure)
    • numbness of body parts
    • fluid retention
    • diarrhoea

    Stop receiving NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • signs of allergic reactions (such as skin rash, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or throat which can lead to difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
    • ototoxicity (problems in hearing or balance)
    • problems in urination

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Nausea or vomiting:

    Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. Consult your doctor if you experience severe nausea and vomiting.

    Diarrhea:

    Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Consuming ORS can also be beneficial. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. If your diarrhea worsens, contact your doctor immediately.

    Headache:  

    Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

    Injection site reactions:

    Place an ice pack at the site of injection. Do not move the affected area. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION may harm the growing baby. Therefore, it should be used in pregnant women only if considered necessary by the physician. Consult your doctor for advice.

    Breastfeeding

    NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk to the nursing infant. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or handle any heavy tools or machines if your ability is affected by NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION.

    Kidney

    NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Allergy

    Do not receive NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION if you are allergic to Netilmicin.

    Others

    Before receiving NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you:

    • have problems in hearing or balance
    • have myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness)
    • have Parkinson’s disease
    • have infant botulism (severe bacterial infection in infants)

    Use in paediatrics

    NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION can be used in infants, children and in adolescents (aged below 18 years) if prescribed by the physician. Therefore, consult your doctor for advice.

    Use in geriatric

    NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients. Therefore, consult your doctor before receiving it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before receiving NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:

    • other medicines used to manage bacterial infections (such as ciprofloxacin, tobramycin, neomycin, streptomycin, paromomycin, cephalothin, polymyxin B, viomycin, vancomycin, bacitracin, gentamicin, kanamycin, colistin, cephaloridine, amikacin, sisomicin)
    • amphotericin B (a medicine used to manage fungal infections)
    • acyclovir (a medicine used to manage viral infections)
    • cisplatin (a medicine used to manage cancer)
    • medicines used to reduce oedema (Ex. ethacrynic acid or frusemide)
    • muscle relaxants (used to reduce muscle spasms) Ex. succinylcholine, tubocurarine, decamethonium

    Overdosage

    NETILMAC 10MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor if you experience any unusual side effects.
