Introduction About NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET
NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET is a combination of Levosulpiride and Activated Dimethicone which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidyspeptics and Antiflatulents respectively. It is used in the management of gastro-intestinal problems like functional dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, bloating and fullness.
Before taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, cardiac insufficiency, epilepsy, history of cerebrovascular events including risk factors for stroke or venous thromboembolism, pheochromocytoma, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation, manic conditions and breast cancer.
Avoid consumption of alcohol during management with this medicine due to increased risk of sedation effect. NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Safety and effectiveness of NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET in children below 14 years of age has not been established yet. It should be used with caution in elderly patients with kidney impairment and due to increased risk of postural hypotension, sedation and extrapyramidal effects.
The most common side effects of taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET are headache, tiredness, drowsiness and constipation. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

How NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET Works
NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET works by reducing the abdominal discomfort in which levosulpiride works by increasing the release of acetylcholine (a chemical messenger) which increases the movement of stomach and intestines and manages reflux (acid going up to the food pipe) and activated dimethicone decreases the surface tension of gas bubbles in the GI (gastrointestinal) tract causing the gas bubbles to accumulate and therefore pass more easily either through the upper GI or lower GI opening.
How to use NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET
Take NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET as advised by your physician. Chew the medicine properly before swallowing. It should be taken in an empty stomach. Your doctor will decide the right dose and duration depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET
Common
- headache, fever, unusual tiredness
- increased prolactin level in blood
- drowsiness
- irregular menstrual periods
- gynecomastia (breast enlargement in males)
- constipation
- abdominal pain and cramps
- weight gain
- increased salivation
- abnormal change in heart rate
Rare
Stop taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- potentially fatal condition with high fever
- rapid heart rate and breathing, irregular pulse
- confusion, excessive sweating
- neuroleptic malignant syndrome (drastically altered mental state)
How To Manage Side Effects
Headache:
Avoid bright lights, drink lots of water and rest well. If symptoms do not show improvement consult your doctor.
Constipation:
Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals and drink more water. Exercise regularly. If symptom do not show improvement consult your doctor.
Stomach pain:
Try to take rest and relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on your stomach. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

Pregnancy
NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET.

Breastfeeding
NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET is not recommended for use in breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or use machines while taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET as it may cause drowsiness.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET as it may cause increased sedation.

Allergy
Do not take NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET if you are allergic to Levosulpiride or Activated Dimethicone or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Heart Disease
NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET should be used with caution in patients with cardiac insufficiency and prolongation of QTc interval or factors that may predispose QTc interval prolongation (such as slow heart rate, congenital QTc prolongation, decreased intracardiac conduction and decreased blood potassium levels). Consult your doctor before taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET.
Others
NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have pheochromocytoma
- have epilepsy
- have prolactin dependent tumors like pituitary gland prolactinomas and breast cancer
- have manic conditions and in the manic stages of manic-depressive psychoses
- have gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstructions or perforation
Before taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have history of cerebrovascular events including risk factors for stroke or venous thromboembolism
Use in pediatrics:
Safety and effectiveness of NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET in children below 14 years of age has not been established yet. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Use in geriatrics:
NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney impairment and due to increased risk of postural hypotension, sedation and extrapyramidal effects. Consult your doctor before taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- levodopa (used to control symptoms of parkinson’s disease)
- beta blockers such as atenolol, metoprolol, calcium channel blockers such as verapamil, diltiazem and clonidine (used to manage high blood pressure)
- digitalis, quinidine, disopyramide, amiodarone, sotalol (used to manage irregular heart rhythm)
- chlorthalidone, hydrochlorothiazide (used to manage fluid retention)
- bisacodyl and sodium picosulfate (used to manage constipation)
- IV amphotericin B (used to manage fungal infections)
- IV erythromycin (used to manage bacterial infections)
- methylprednisolone, dexamethasone (used to manage inflammatory conditions)
- antacids such as aluminium hydroxide or sucralfate (used to neutralize stomach acid)
- cisapride (used to manage gastric reflux)
- narcotics such as morphine, methadone (used to manage severe pain)
- analgesics such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen (used to manage pain)
- phenobarbital (used to manage seizures)
- alprazolam, chlordiazepoxide (used to manage anxiety or insomnia)
- imipramine, lithium (used to manage depression)
- halofantrine (used to manage malaria)
- pentamidine (used to manage pneumocystis carinii pneumonia)
- cetirizine, hydroxyzine (used to manage allergy)
- sulpiride, thioridazine (used to manage schizophrenia)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of NEOPRIDE MPS TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are extrapyramidal disturbances such as tremors, difficulty and slowness in movement and sleep disorders.
