    Introduction About MIDORISE 5 TABLET

    MIDORISE 5 TABLET contains Midodrine which belongs to the group of medicines called Alpha -1 Selective Adrenergic Receptor Agonist. It is used to manage low blood pressure (hypotension) in adults. Symptoms of low blood pressure include blurred or fading vision, dizziness or light-headedness, fainting, feeling sick, difficult in concentrating.

    Midodrine acts on the blood vessels via the sympathetic nervous system (part of nervous system that cause increase in heart rate, blood pressure, breathing rate, and dilatation of pupil) to correct imbalances of blood distribution, such as preventing too much blood pooling in the legs when standing up which may cause low blood pressure. Your doctor may regularly monitor the blood pressure when you are lying down and when you are standing up as there may be a risk of your blood pressure rising when you lie down (Ex. at night).

    MIDORISE 5 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having severe heart disease.MIDORISE 5 TABLET should be used with caution in patient having severe kidney disease, liver problems. Consult your doctor for advice before takingMIDORISE 5 TABLET, if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.MIDORISE 5 TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below the age of 18 years. The most common side effects of takingMIDORISE 5 TABLET are increased blood pressure when lying down, headache, nausea (feeling sick), vomiting, heartburn.     How to use MIDORISE 5 TABLET

    TakeMIDORISE 5 TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow this medicine, do not crush, or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of MIDORISE 5 TABLET

    Common

    • Pain when urinating
    • Tingling and itching
    • Increased blood pressure when lying down
    • Headache
    • Nausea (feeling sick), vomiting
    • Heartburn
    • Inflammation of the lining inside the mouth
    • Flushing
    • Rash
    • Chills
    • Difficulty in urinating

    Uncommon

    • Sleep disturbances including difficulty sleeping
    • Restlessness
    • Agitation (state of anxiety), irritability
    • Slowed heart rate
    • Urge to urinate

    Rare

    • Rapid, irregular or fast heartbeat
    • Chest pain
    • Signs of increased liver enzymes such stomach pain, dark urine, fatigue (feeling tired), itching, jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes)
    • Dizziness or light headedness
    • Stroke
    • Visual disturbances

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Dizziness Or Drowsiness

    When you feel dizzy, lie or sit down immediately. If you're experiencing a severe episode of vertigo, lie in a dark and quite place with eyes closed. Driving should be avoided, if you experience frequent dizziness without warning. Talk to your doctor if the symptom worsens.

    Headache

    Apply hot or cold-water bag on your head. Try taking rest in a quiet and dark room. Massage with mild pressure on scalp or head.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Take this medicine with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks, and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor if your symptom does not improve.

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    MIDORISE 5 TABLET is not recommended for use if you are allergic to Midodrine.

    Heart Disease

    Contraindicated

    MIDORISE 5 TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with severe heart disease including slow pulse, heart attack, heart failure, heart rhythm disorders, widening of the aorta (aortic aneurysm) or other cardiovascular diseases and also in patients with high blood pressure, or a form of low blood pressure known as vasovagal hypotension. Consult your doctor before takingMIDORISE 5 TABLET.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    MIDORISE 5 TABLET is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (under 18 years of age). Consult your doctor before takingMIDORISE 5 TABLET.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    MIDORISE 5 TABLET is used with caution in patients above 60 years of age. Usually the management is initiated with the lowest dose and gradually increased depending upon the clinical condition of the patient. Consult your doctor before takingMIDORISE 5 TABLET.

    Others

    MIDORISE 5 TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:

    • Difficulty in urinating
    • Have elevated pressure in the eye (glaucoma) or poor vision because of diabetes
    • Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland)
    • Hormonal disorders caused by a tumour in the adrenal medulla (pheochromocytoma)
    • Enlarged prostate

    Before takingMIDORISE 5 TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

    • Serious disorder of the nervous system (autonomic nervous system disorders)
    • Problems with blood circulation
    • Disease of the prostate

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    • Reserpine and guanethidine (medicines used to reduce high blood pressure)
    • Antihistamines like cetirizine, chlorpheniramine (used to manage allergies)
    • Hormones for the thyroid like thyroxine
    • Tricyclic antidepressants like clomipramine, amoxapine, amitriptyline and MAO-inhibitors such as selegiline, isocarboxazid, phenelzine, (both used to manage depression)
    • Vasoconstrictors like epinephrine, dopamine, phenyl epinephrine (medicines that narrow blood vessels)
    • Sympathomimetic agents such as ephedrine, isoproterenol, metaproterenol, (medicines that have a stimulating effect on certain parts of the nervous system)
    • Prazosin and phentolamine (medicines used to manage heart disease
    • Digitalis preparations such as digitoxin, digoxin (medicines used to manage heart disease)
    • Fludrocortisone acetate (medicine used to reduce inflammation)
    • Perphenazine (medicine used to manage mental or mood disorders)
    • Amiodarone (medicine used to manage irregular heartbeat)
    • Metoclopramide (medicine used to prevent vomiting)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much ofMIDORISE 5 TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. The most common symptoms of overdose are high blood pressure (hypertension), slow heart rate (bradycardia), difficulty urinating and feeling of coldness.
