    Introduction About MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION contains Midazolam, which belongs to the group of medicines called central nervous system (CNS) depressants. It is used as a general anaesthetic (medications that put you in a sleep-like state before surgery) in adults.

    It is also used in children and adults as preoperative sedation or conscious sedation (depressed level of consciousness during which a patient retains control over his protective reflexes and can respond) before the short diagnostic or endoscopic procedure and for induction of general anaesthesia before administration of another anaesthetic agent.

    Avoid consuming alcohol while receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION. Do not receive MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION if you have breathing difficulties. Before receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have kidney problems, heart diseases, liver problems, a history of drug abuse, sleep apnoea syndrome and myasthenia gravis.

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION is generally not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women unless considered clearly necessary. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION cause common side effects such as hiccups, cough, nausea and vomiting. If any of these symptoms worsen, contact your doctor for advice.

    Uses Of MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION

    • It is used as a general anaesthetic in adults
    • It is also used as preoperative sedation or conscious sedation before the short diagnostic or endoscopic procedures and for induction of general anaesthesia before administration of another anaesthetic agent in children and adults

    How MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION Works

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION works by acting on certain receptors in the brain called GABA receptors, which cause the release of a neurotransmitter called GABA that transmits messages between the nerve cells. Hence, MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION helps stabilize the altered electrical activity of nerve cells in the brain to induce complete loss of consciousness and for sedation before the surgical or diagnostic procedure.

    How to use MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION

    Common

    • tenderness, redness and induration at the site of injection
    • pain during injection
    • hiccups
    • cough
    • nausea and vomiting

    Uncommon

    • inflammation of a vein causing pain and swelling at the injection site
    • headache
    • feeling drowsy
    • low blood pressure
    • exaggeration of existing diseases
    • seizures

    Rare

    • taste changes and excessive salivation
    • behavioural changes such as confusion, excitement, restlessness, agitation, irritability, anger, nightmares, hallucinations or psychosis
    • temporary memory loss
    • difficulty co-ordinating muscles
    • seeing double images
    • sleep disturbances and nightmare
    • slurred speech,
    • blocking of ears
    • loss of balance and light-headedness

    Stop receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • signs of a severe allergic reaction (sudden rash, itching or lumpy rash and swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body along with shortness of breath, wheezing or trouble breathing)
    • signs of a heart attack such as chest pain
    • breathing problems, sometimes causing the breathing to stop
    • muscle spasm around the voice box, causing choking

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Nausea and vomiting:

    Take a rest to relax. Eat and drink slowly or try to have smaller and more frequent meals. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Cough:

    Gargle with salt water and drink herbal teas made of ginger, turmeric and black pepper. Consume only hot water. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Stomach upset:

    Drink lots of fluids and water to keep yourself hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea and consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

    Headache:

    Try a cold pack or use a heating pad or hot compress. Ease pressure on your scalp or head. Dim the lights. Hydrate yourself and practice relaxation. If there is no improvement in symptoms, consult your doctor.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION is generally not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

    Breastfeeding

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Do not breastfeed for 24 hours after receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION. Consult your doctor receiving receiving the medicine.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy, sleepy forgetful or impaired concentration and coordination after receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION because it may make you feel very sleepy and cause breathing problems.

    Kidney

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION.

    Liver

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION.

    Allergy

    Do not receive MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION if you are allergic to midazolam or other benzodiazepine medicines, such as diazepam or nitrazepam.

    Lungs

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with severe breathing problems. Consult your doctor before receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION.

    Heart Disease

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with heart problems. Consult your doctor before receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION.

    Others

    Before receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:

    • have an illness that makes you feel very weak, run down and short of energy
    • have myasthenia gravis
    • have sleep apnoea syndrome
    • have ever had alcohol or drug problems

    Use in paediatrics:

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION should be cautious in infants, children and adolescents (less than 6 months to 16 years of age). Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

    Use in geriatrics:

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly (60 years and above) patients because there is an increased risk of fall, fractures and life-threatening side effects. Consult your doctor for advice before receiving the medicine.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before receiving MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • medicines used for managing depression (Ex. citalopram, sertraline, fluoxetine, escitalopram)
    • medicines that help to calm down and sleep (Ex. zopiclone, zolpidem, suvorexant, Flurazepam and triazolam)
    • carbamazepine or phenytoin (these may be used for fits or seizures)
    • medicines used to manage fungal infections (ex. ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole)
    • ritonavir, boceprevir and telaprevir (used to manage viral infections)
    • medicines used to manage bacterial infections (Ex. clarithromycin, erythromycin, isoniazid)
    • medicines used to lower blood pressure levels (Ex. verapamil, diltiazem)
    • rifampicin (used to manage tuberculosis
    • medicines to reduce pain (Ex. buprenorphine, methadone and fentanyl)
    • Atorvastatin (used to manage high cholesterol)
    • Medicines used for allergic reactions (Ex. brompheniramine, cetirizine, chlorpheniramine, diphenhydramine and fexofenadine)
    • St John’s Wort (herbal medicine for managing depression)

    Overdosage:

    MEZOLAM 10MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
