    Introduction About HOMACID EYE DROPS

    HOMACID EYE DROPS contains Homatropine which belongs to a group of medicines called Anticholinergics. HOMACID EYE DROPS is used alone/in combination with other eye medicines to enlarge (dilate) pupil of the eye and manage eyes from focusing in affected individuals.

    HOMACID EYE DROPS is also used prior to/after surgical procedure or during examination of inside part of the eye in affected individuals. The medicine is also indicated for use to manage certain eye conditions such as uveitis (inflammation of eye) in affected individuals.

    HOMACID EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Homatropine hydrobromide, preservatives, and/or dyes. It is also not recommended for use in patients suffering from glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye).

    Before using HOMACID EYE DROPS, inform your doctor if you have wear contact lenses, and/or suffer from keratoconus (a disease in which the cornea thins and changes shape causing distorted vision), Down's syndrome (a genetic condition associated with mental retardation).

    HOMACID EYE DROPS should be used with caution during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. It is not recommended for use in breast feeding women.

    HOMACID EYE DROPS should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above) after consulting the doctor.

    The most common side effects of taking HOMACID EYE DROPS are slight stinging and burning feeling in the eye, discharge with itching of the eyes, swelling, irritation, eye pain, red eye, and/or dilated pupils. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens. 

    Uses Of HOMACID EYE DROPS

    • Helps to enlarge (dilate) the pupil of the eye and manages eyes from focusing
    • Prior/after surgical procedure or during examination of inside parts of the eye
    • Manage certain eye conditions such as uveitis (inflammation of eye) in affected individuals

    How HOMACID EYE DROPS Works

    HOMACID EYE DROPS works by relaxing muscles in the iris (coloured part of eye) which leads to widening/dilation of pupil of the eye thus aiding in eye examination and managing uveitis (inflammation of eye) in affected individuals.

    How to use HOMACID EYE DROPS

    Always use HOMACID EYE DROPS as directed by your physician. It is for ophthalmic use only. Wash your hands thoroughly before application. Remove the cap and hold the bottle upside down in one hand between thumb and middle finger.  Tilt your head slightly backwards and pull your lower eyelid down slightly looking up to create a pouch/pocket. Instil required number of drops into the pouch/pocket and avoid touching the tip with your eye. Close your eye gently and press your finger against the inside corner of the eye for 2 minutes. Replace the cap and close it tightly. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper with your fingers, eye, and/or any other surface. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of HOMACID EYE DROPS

    Common

    • slight stinging and burning feeling in the eye
    • discharge with itching of the eyes and crusty eyelids
    • swelling
    • irritation
    • eye pain
    • red eye
    • rash around the skin of the eye
    • sensitivity to light
    • dilated pupils

    Rare

    Stop using HOMACID EYE DROPS and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • skin rash
    • signs of allergic skin reaction such as red itchy welts)
    • abdominal swelling (in infants)
    • unusual signs of drowsiness
    • high temperature
    • flushing
    • unable to pass urine

    Pregnancy

    HOMACID EYE DROPS should be used with caution during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.

    Breastfeeding

    HOMACID EYE DROPS is not recommended for use in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before using the medicine.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive/operate any machines if HOMACID EYE DROPS affects your vision.  

    Allergy

    Do not use HOMACID EYE DROPS if you are allergic to Homatropine hydrobromide, preservatives, dyes, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    HOMACID EYE DROPS is not recommended for use if you:

    • suffer from glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)

    Before using HOMACID EYE DROPS, inform your doctor if you:

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    other anticholinergic medicines (used to manage overactive bladder, gastrointestinal disorders, symptoms of Parkinson’s disease) Ex. diphenhydramine.

    B. Drug-Food interaction:

    HOMACID EYE DROPS should be used with caution if you are allergic to certain foods. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else uses too much of HOMACID EYE DROPS then consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are confusion, agitation and/or rarely coma.
