Introduction About FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET
FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET contains Lanthanum which belongs to the group of medicines called Phosphate binders. It is used to manage hyperphosphatemia (high levels of phosphate in the blood) in patients with chronic kidney disease.
FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with low levels of phosphate (hypophosphatemia), bowel obstruction, ileus, faecal impaction, and severe constipation. FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney disease. FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use by pregnant and breastfeeding women as it is not known if it can pass through breast milk. FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use by children and adolescents under 18 years of age, as its safety and efficacy are not established.
FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 65 years or above. Contact your doctor before taking FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET. The most common side effects of taking FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, itching, and rash. Contact your physician if any of the side effects worsen.

How FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET Works
FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET is a phosphate binder that works by binding to dietary phosphorus released from food during digestion, by which it inhibits the absorption of phosphorus by the formation of highly insoluble lanthanum phosphate complexes that cannot easily pass through the gastrointestinal tract wall and are excreted in the faeces. Thus, decreasing phosphate levels in the blood.
How to use FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET
Take FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition.

- laryngitis (inflammation of the larynx)
- decrease in weight
- change in taste
- increased white blood cells
- hair loss
Stop taking FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- rupture in the intestinal wall (signs include sudden severe stomach pain, bloating, chills, fever, nausea, vomiting, or tenderness in the abdomen)
- blockage in the intestine, abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, swelling or cramps, severe constipation and vomiting
How To Manage Side Effects

Constipation
Eat fiber-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Drink more water and exercise regularly. Contact your doctor if your symptom does not improve.

Diarrhea
Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices, to keep yourself hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own to manage diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if your symptom does not improve.

Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating machines if you feel dizzy. Do not drink alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Contact your doctor if your dizziness does not improve.

Headache
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the head if necessary. Contact your doctor if your headache does not improve.

Nausea And Vomiting
Take the medicine with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. Contact your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.

Stomach Pain
Try to rest and relax. Eat small meals but take them frequently. Keep a heating pad on your stomach. Contact your doctor if the stomach pain gets worse.

Breastfeeding

Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionDo not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or have vertigo (spinning sensation in the head) after taking FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET.

Kidney
Use with CautionFOSBAIT 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases. Contact your doctor before taking FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET.

Liver
Use with CautionFOSBAIT 500MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with reduced liver function. Contact your doctor before taking FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET.

Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not take FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET if you are allergic to Lanthanum or other ingredients in this medicine.

Use In Pediatrics

Use In Geriatrics

FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you have:
- low levels of phosphate (hypophosphatemia)

- stomach or intestinal cancer

- infection or inflammation of the abdomen (peritonitis)
- stomach or intestinal ulcers
- blockage of the intestine (bowel obstruction)
- gastrointestinal perforation
- slow movement in the intestine (ex. constipation and stomach complications like ileus, sub ileus, diabetic gastroparesis)
- x-ray of the stomach
- bone diseases like osteoporosis
- gastrointestinal endoscopy
- diverticular disease (infection or inflammation in the intestine)
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- chloroquine, halofantrine (a medicine used for malaria)
- hydroxychloroquine (a medicine used for rheumatoid arthritis and malaria)
- ketoconazole (a medicine used to manage fungal infections)
- tetracycline, doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, ampicillin (medicines used to manage bacterial infections)
- levothyroxine (a medicine used for hypothyroidism)
- benazepril, captopril (medicines used for high blood pressure)
- antacids (medicines used for indigestion)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else have accidentally taken too much of FOSBAIT 500MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdosage include headache, nausea, and vomiting.
