    Introduction About ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION contains a medicine Esmolol which belongs to the group of medicines called Beta-blockers. It is used for short-term management if your heart beats too fast and used during or straight after surgery if your blood pressure gets too high or your heart beats too fast.

    Your doctor might want you to take certain tests before starting the management. ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you have very slow heartbeat (less than 50 beats per minute), fast or alternating fast and slow heartbeat, severe heart block, low blood pressure, problem with the blood supply to your heart, or serious heart failure symptoms.

    It is also not recommended for use if you have adrenal gland disease called phaeochromocytoma which has not been managed, increased blood pressure in the lung (pulmonary hypertension), asthma symptoms that are worsening rapidly, or increased level of acids in your body (metabolic acidosis).

    Before receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you have heart problems (heart rhythm disorders called supraventricular arrhythmias, low heart rate before management, heart failure, heart block, high or low blood pressure, Prinzmetal’s angina), adrenal gland disease called phaeochromocytoma, asthma, diabetes, skin problem (psoriasis), circulatory problems (Raynaud’s disease), kidney, liver problems or overactive thyroid gland.

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age.

    The most common side effects of receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION are excessive sweating, loss of appetite, dizziness, headache, or feeling sleepy. Consult your doctor if symptoms do not improve.

    Uses Of ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION

    Manage:

    • heartbeat problems, when heart beats too fast
    • heartbeat problems and an increase in blood pressure during or straight after an operation

    How ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION Works

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION works by blocking the activity of epinephrine and norepinephrine receptors (receptors responsible for increased cardiac output), which in turn decreases the heart rate and decreases the oxygen demand.

    How to use ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION

    Common

    • loss of appetite
    • feeling anxious or depressed
    • dizziness
    • headache
    • tingling sensation or pins and needles
    • difficulty concentrating
    • feeling confused or agitated
    • nausea and vomiting
    • fall in blood pressure
    • excessive sweating
    • feeling sleepy
    • feeling weak
    • feeling tired (fatigue)
    • irritation and hardening at injection site

    Uncommon

    • abnormal thoughts
    • sudden loss of consciousness
    • fainting
    • seizures
    • problems with speech
    • problems with eyesight
    • slow heart rate
    • chest discomfort/pain caused by poor blood flow through the blood vessels of the heart muscle (angina pectoris)
    • poor blood circulation in your arms or legs
    • looking pale or flushed
    • fluids on your lungs
    • wheezing, blocked nose
    • indigestion, constipation
    • dry mouth
    • pain, burning feeling and swelling (oedema) at the site of injection
    • problems with the electrical messages that control your heartbeat
    • increased pressure in the arteries of the lungs
    • inability of the heart to pump enough blood (heart failure)
    • disruption in the rhythm of the heart sometimes known as palpitations
    • pain in your stomach area- Discoloured skin
    • reddening of the skin
    • pain in your muscles or tendons, including around the shoulder blades and ribs
    • problems passing urine (urinary retention)
    • feeling cold or high temperature (fever)
    • pain and swelling (oedema) of your vein injection was injected
    • abnormal rattling/crackling sounds when breathing
    • changes in your sense of taste
    • heartbeat disorder (nodal rhythm)
    • shortness of breath or tightness of the chest making it difficult to breathe

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Loss of appetite:

    Eat smaller meals more often than usual. Snack only when you're hungry. Eat a nutritious snack which is rich in calories and protein, such as dried fruit and nuts. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Dizziness:

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume too much of alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Headache:

    Rest and relax for some time. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on your head if required. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Nausea and vomiting:

    Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom did not improve.

    Pregnancy

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pregnant women or women planning to have a baby as safety data has not been established yet. Consult your doctor before receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION.

    Breastfeeding

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in breast feeding women as it may pass through the breastmilk. Consult your doctor before receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION.

    Kidney

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney diseases or who are undergoing dialysis. Consult your doctor before receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION.

    Liver

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION.

    Allergy

    Do not receive ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION if you are allergic to Esmolol or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with increased blood pressure in the lung (pulmonary hypertension) or asthma symptoms that are worsening rapidly.

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with asthma. Consult your doctor before receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION.

    Heart Disease

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION is not recommended for use if you have very slow heartbeat (less than 50 beats per minute), fast or alternating fast and slow heartbeat, severe heart block, low blood pressure, problem with the blood supply to your heart, or serious heart failure symptoms.

    Before receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION inform your doctor if you:

    • have diabetes
    • have skin problem (psoriasis)
    • have circulatory problems (Raynaud’s disease)
    • have overactive thyroid gland

    Use in paediatrics:

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Consult your doctor before receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION.

    Use in geriatrics:

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age. The dose will be adjusted by your doctor. Consult your doctor before receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION.

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Before receiving ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • medicines to lower heart rate (Ex. clonidine, guanfacine, moxonidine), manage chest pain (Ex. verapamil and diltiazem, nifedipine)
    • medicines used to manage heart rhythm problems (such as quinidine,
      disopyramide, amiodarone) and heart failure (Ex. digoxin, digitoxin, digitalis)
    • medicines used to manage diabetes (Ex. metformin)
    • medicines to reduce bleeding during surgery (Ex. trimetaphan)
    • medicine to manage pain (Ex. floctafenine. morphine)
    • medicine that is used to manage mental problems (Ex. amisulpride, imipramine, amitriptyline, chlorpromazine, clozapine)
    • barbiturates (such as phenobarbital, used to manage epilepsy)
    • epinephrine (which is used to manage allergic reactions)
    • medicines used to manage asthma (Ex. levosalbutamol)
    • medicines used to manage colds or a blocked nose (Ex. oxymetazoline)
    • medicine to manage high blood pressure (Ex. reserpine, clonidine, moxonidine)
    • medicines mainly used to manage Parkinson's disease (Ex. ergotamine)
    • warfarin (which is used to thin your blood)
    • suxamethonium chloride also known mivacurium (used to relax your muscles)

    Overdosage:

    ESOCARD 100MG INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so you are unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
