INTRODUCTION ABOUT EOFIL FORTE TABLET
EOFIL FORTE TABLET is a combination of Chlorpheniramine and Diethylcarbamazine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antiallergics and Filaricides respectively. It is indicated in the management of filariasis, tropical pulmonary eosinophilia and loa-loa (eye worm).
Filariasis is a parasitic disease which affects the lymphatic system of the body and tropical pulmonary eosinophilia a clinical manifestation of filariasis in which these parasites reach the lung tissues.
Prior to the management with EOFIL FORTE TABLET your doctor might ask you to undergo several diagnostic tests to understand the existing condition.
EOFIL FORTE TABLET is not recommended for use in patients having heart or kidney disease and have a history of river blindness (onchocerciasis) involving the eyes. EOFIL FORTE TABLET should be used with caution in patients having liver or lung diseases, epilepsy, very high blood pressure and increased pressure in the eye.
EOFIL FORTE TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women. Caution must be exercised while using the medicine in children and not recommended for use in elderly patients especially those with heart or kidney disease.
The most common side effects of taking EOFIL FORTE TABLET are nausea, dry mouth, headache, dizziness or tiredness. Ask for your doctor’s advice if any of these worsen or doesn’t improve.

HOW EOFIL FORTE TABLET WORKS
EOFIL FORTE TABLET helps in managing parasitic infections where Chlorpheniramine is an H1 Antihistamine which acts by blocking certain chemical substances in the body called histamine which is responsible for allergic symptoms. Diethylcarbamazine is a Filaricide which is thought to destroy the microfilariae (parasites) and also activate the immune system to further kill the parasites.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take EOFIL FORTE TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine as a whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, condition and body weight.
SIDE EFFECTS OF EOFIL FORTE TABLET
COMMON
- sleepiness
- disturbance in attention, abnormal coordination
- dizziness, headache
- blurred vision
- nausea, dry mouth
- tiredness
HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS
Nausea and vomiting:
Take this medicine with or just after a meal or a snack and stick to simple meals and do not eat oil rich, fried or spicy food. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
Try to take rest and don’t involve yourself in exertive activities. Apply a pain-relieving balm on your forehead if necessary. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Dry mouth:
Sip water regularly and other sugar free liquids. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can make your mouth dry, use mouthwash that is used only for dry mouth. Limit your caffeine intake. Avoid smoking or using tobacco products. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY
EOFIL FORTE TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women as it is not known if EOFIL FORTE TABLET affects the developing baby. Consult your doctor before taking it.

BREASTFEEDING
EOFIL FORTE TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is not known if EOFIL FORTE TABLET passes through mother’s milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel drowsy and sleepy after taking EOFIL FORTE TABLET.

ALCOHOL
Avoid the use of alcohol while taking EOFIL FORTE TABLET as it may cause drowsiness and increased effects of alcohol.

KIDNEY
EOFIL FORTE TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.

LIVER
EOFIL FORTE TABLET should be used with caution in patients having liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

ALLERGY
Do not take EOFIL FORTE TABLET if you are allergic to Chlorpheniramine or Diethylcarbamazine.

LUNGS
EOFIL FORTE TABLET should be used with caution in patients having asthma or other chest diseases. Consult your doctor before taking it.

HEART DISEASE
EOFIL FORTE TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with heart problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.
OTHERS
EOFIL FORTE TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have a history of river blindness (onchocerciasis) involving the eyes
Before taking EOFIL FORTE TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:
- underlying worm infection such as loaisis (african eye worm), onchocerciasis (river blindness) or lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis)
- epilepsy
- high blood pressure
- increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma)
Use in paediatrics:
EOFIL FORTE TABLET is not recommended for use in children under 2 years of age. It should be used with caution in children as they may experience more side effects relating to the nervous system. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Use in geriatrics:
EOFIL FORTE TABLET is not recommended for use in elderly patients especially with heart or kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.
INTERACTIONS
A. Drug – Drug Interactions:
Before taking EOFIL FORTE TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as isocarboxazid (used to manage depression)
- alprazolam, clonazepam (used to manage anxiety)
- psychotropic drugs such as escitalopram, sertraline (change the perception or behaviour)
- atropine (used to dilate the pupils, manage low heart rate in emergencies)
- phenytoin (used to manage epilepsy)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of EOFIL FORTE TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. The symptoms of overdosage are nausea, vomiting, headache, vertigo, drowsiness and convulsions (fits).
