    Introduction About DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET

    DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET is a combination of Cefadroxil and Clavulanic acid which belongs to the group of medicines called Cephalosporins and Beta-lactamase Inhibitors. It is used to manage bacterial infections like urinary tract infections and respiratory tract infections like pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, pneumonia, skin and skin structure infections, gonococcal urethritis and ear, nose and throat infections like chronic maxillary sinusitis and chronic otitis media.

    DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung, liver or kidney disease and gastrointestinal diseases like colitis and fits. DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnancy only if necessary. In breastfeeding women, DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution. 

    In children over the age of six, DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution.DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients over the age of 65. The most common side effect of taking DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET is diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if any of your symptoms get worse and persist.

    Uses Of DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET

    Manages bacterial infections such as:

    • urinary tract infections
    • respiratory tract infections like pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, pneumonia
    • skin and skin structure infections,
    • gonococcal urethritis
    • ear nose and throat infections like chronic maxillary sinusitis and chronic otitis media

    How DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET Works

    DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET helps to manage bacterial infections, where Cefadroxil is a cephalosporin antibiotic and works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death. Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that works by binding and inhibiting beta-lactamase (an enzyme that destroys antibiotic activity) produced by bacterial cells and thereby manages the reduction in antibacterial activity.

    How to use DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET

    Take DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicines with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending on your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET

    Common

    • diarrhoea

    Rare

    Stop taking DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET and contact your physician immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • symptoms of pseudomembranous colitis such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, indigestion, gastritis, stomatitis, glossitis, black hairy tongue, fungal infections of the skin, nails and mucous membranes (mucocutaneous candidiasis), enterocolitis and bleeding in the stomach or intestine
    • allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis or skin rashes, urticaria, angioedema, itching, serum sickness-like reactions (accompanied by arthritis, arthralgia, myalgia and fever), erythema multiforme (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
    • acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, hypersensitivity vasculitis, exfoliative dermatitis (toxic epidermal necrolysis)
    • symptoms of hepatic dysfunction, Ex. cholestasis, idiosyncratic hepatic failure and increase in serum transaminase like yellowish discolouration of skin and whites of the eye
    • genital pruritus, vaginal infections or vaginitis
    • fever with moderate transient neutropenia
    • agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia (decrease in blood platelets causing a bruise or bleeding easily)
    • interstitial nephritis and haematuria (blood in urine), crystalluria
    • fits

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juices to keep you hydrated. Do not take any medicine on your own for managing diarrhoea. Contact your doctor if the diarrhoea did not improve.

    DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution in pregnancy only if necessary. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding women. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Kidney

    DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Do not take DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET if you are allergic to cefadroxil, clavulanic acid or Beta-lactam antibiotics like cephalosporins, penicillin or other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with lung disease. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Others

    Before taking DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have:

    • clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea
    • gastrointestinal diseases like colitis
    • blood test (coomb’s test)
    • urine test for sugar
    • fits

    Use in Paediatrics:

    DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution in children above 6 years of age. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 65 years or above. Contact your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • antibiotics like doxycycline, erythromycin, sulfamethoxazole, chloramphenicol, amikacin, polymyxin B and colistin (medicines used for bacterial infections)
    • loop diuretics Ex. furosemide (medicines used to manage high blood pressure and heart diseases)
    • anticoagulants or platelet aggregation inhibitors Ex. warfarin, aspirin (medicines used to manage blood clots)
    • probenecid (medicines used to manage gout)
    • oral contraceptives (medicines used for managing pregnancy)
    • cholestyramine (medicines used to decrease high cholesterol levels in the blood)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of DROXYL CLAV 250MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
