    Introduction About DERIPHYLLIN TABLET

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLETcontains a combination of Etofylline and Theophylline which belongs to the group of medicines called Bronchodilators. It is used in the management of asthma (in which airways narrow and swell and may produce extra mucus, coughing and shortness of breath), chronic bronchitis (inflammation of the lining of bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from lungs causing cough and thick mucus), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.

    Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. Symptoms include breathing difficulty, cough, mucus (sputum) production, and wheezing.

    Before taking DERIPHYLLIN TABLET, inform your doctor if you have porphyria, liver, heart, or thyroid problems; worsening of chest symptoms; a stomach ulcer; cystic fibrosis; a high fever; a viral infection; fits; difficulty passing urine (in men); are a smoker; are diabetic; or are going to have an operation. Avoid consuming alcohol during this management.

    Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before taking DERIPHYLLIN TABLET. DERIPHYLLIN TABLET is not recommended for children under the age of six. The most common side effects of taking DERIPHYLLIN TABLET are nausea, vomiting, headache, restlessness, and dizziness. Consult your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.

    How DERIPHYLLIN TABLET Works

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLET works by relaxing the smooth muscles in the airway, in which etofylline works by dilating and relaxing the airway muscles, and theophylline relaxes the smooth muscles located in the bronchial airways and pulmonary blood vessels, reducing the airway's responsiveness to allergens and thereby reducing inflammation.

    How to use DERIPHYLLIN TABLET

    Take DERIPHYLLIN TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will determine the right dose and duration depending upon your age, body weight, and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of DERIPHYLLIN TABLET

    Common

    • nausea and vomiting
    • headache
    • abdominal pain
    • diarrhea
    • heartburn or gastrointestinal disorders
    • difficulty in sleeping, agitation, anxiety or tremors
    • fast, slow or irregular heartbeat
    • dizziness
    • difficulty in passing urine (especially in men)
    • increased uric acid levels in the blood, which could cause painful, swollen joints
    • seizures, fits or convulsions
    • rash or itchy skin

    Rare

    Stop taking DERIPHYLLIN TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • sudden wheeziness, difficulties in breathing, swelling of the eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching especially those covering your whole body

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhea

    Drink lots of or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. If the symptom does not show improvement, consult your doctor.

    Headache

    Avoid bright lights, drink more water, and take rest. If the symptom does not show improvement, consult your doctor.

    Nausea And Vomiting

    Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. If the symptom does not show improvement, consult your doctor.

    Stomach Pain

    Try to rest and relax and have smaller and frequent meals. Keep a heat pad on stomach. If the symptom does not show improvement, consult your doctor.

    Pregnancy

    Monitoring required

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women or women planning to be pregnant uncles clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking DERIPHYLLIN TABLET.

    Breastfeeding

    Monitoring required

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLET is excreted in breastmilk so it will be given to you only if the benefits overweight the risk causing to the child. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Safe

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLET has no or negligible effect on your ability to drive or use machines.

    Alcohol

    Consult your doctor

    Do not consume alcohol while taking DERIPHYLLIN TABLET as it can alter the way this medicine works.

    Kidney

    Use with Caution

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLET should be used with caution if you are male and have difficulty in passing urine (can be due to an enlarged prostate gland). Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    Use with Caution

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Do not take DERIPHYLLIN TABLET if you are allergic to Etofylline or Theophylline or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Lungs

    Use with Caution

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLET should be used with caution in patients with worsening of chest symptoms like breathlessness or cough. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Heart Disease

    Use with Caution

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLET should be used with caution in patients with an irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure or any other heart problems. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 6 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Dose will be adjusted by your doctor depending on your age, body weight and disease condition. Consult your doctor before taking DERIPHYLLIN TABLET.

    Others

    DERIPHYLLIN TABLET is not recommended for use if you:

    • have porphyria (rare disease of the blood pigments)

    Before taking DERIPHYLLIN TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • have an over or under-active thyroid gland
    • have a stomach ulcer
    • have diabetes
    • have cystic fibrosis
    • suffer from seizures, fits or convulsions
    • are unwell with fever
    • have a viral infection
    • are a smoker or addicted to alcohol
    • are going to have an operation

    Interactions

    A. Drug - Drug interactions:

    Before taking DERIPHYLLIN TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • certain other medicines to manage asthma or breathing conditions that contain theophylline, aminophylline, salbutamol, terbutaline, or salmeterol, steroids (Ex. prednisolone, hydrocortisone)
    • diuretics (to increase urine production)
    • oral contraceptives
    • St John’s Wort, fluvoxamine or lithium (for depression)
    • aminoglutethimide, methotrexate or lomustine (to manage cancer)
    • carbamazepine or phenytoin (for seizures, fits or convulsions)
    • medicines known as barbiturates to help in sleeping
    • adenosine, diltiazem, isoprenaline, mexiletine, propafenone, propranolol, verapamil or beta blockers, regadenoson or dipyridamol (for high blood pressure and other heart problems)
    • pentoxifylline (for diseased blood vessels)
    • benzodiazepines (to manage anxiety)
    • aciclovir to manage Herpes viruses
    • sulphinpyrazone or allopurinol (for gout)
    • carbimazole (for problems of thyroid gland)
    • cimetidine or nizatidine (to manage stomach ulcers, indigestion or heartburn)
    • antibiotics (Ex. ciprofloxacin, clarithromycin, erythromycin, enoxacin)
    • fluconazole (manage fungal infections)
    • rifampicin or isoniazid (manage tuberculosis)
    • ritonavir to manage HIV
    • interferons (manage conditions such as herpes, cancer, leukaemia or hepatitis)
    • thiabendazole to manage worms like threadworms
    • doxapram to stimulate breathing
    • disulfiram (manages alcoholism)
    • cough medicine containing ephedrine.
    • certain anesthetics such as halothane and ketamine
    • you have recently had, or are going to have a flu injection

    B. Drug - Food interaction:

    • avoid caffeinated drinks during this management.

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of DERIPHYLLIN TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are stomach pains, feel or be sick (possibly vomiting blood), fast or irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, restlessness, or unusual muscle stiffness, have a fit or even go into a coma.
