Introduction About COLDACT CAPSULE
COLDACT CAPSULE is a combination of Phenylephrine and Chlorpheniramine which belongs to the group of medicines called Nasal decongestants and Antihistamines respectively. It is used to manage rhinorrhea (runny nose), common cold and congestion.
Common cold is a viral infection of the nose or throat that can cause symptoms like a blocked or runny nose, sore throat, headaches, muscle aches, coughs, sneezing, fever, pressure in your ears and face and loss of taste or smell.
COLDACT CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you have asthma or lower respiratory disorders, severely high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, overactive thyroid gland, gastrointestinal or genitourinary obstruction and bladder or prostate problems.
Before taking COLDACT CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, heart or lung problems, fits, blood circulation problems (including raynaud’s phenomenon, which makes the toes and fingers numb and pale).
COLDACT CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women. COLDACT CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age (including neonates and premature infants).
The most common side effects of taking COLDACT CAPSULE are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache and blurred vision. Consult your doctor if any of the side effects worsen.

How COLDACT CAPSULE Works
COLDACT CAPSULE relieves cold symptoms where phenylephrine decreases nasal congestion by acting on α1-adrenergic receptors in the small vessels of the nasal mucosa to produce constriction, resulting in decreased swelling and increased drainage of the sinus cavities and chlorpheniramine binds to the histamine H1 receptor and blocks its action, resulting in temporary relief of the negative symptoms (runny nose, sneezing, watery and itchy eyes) brought on by histamine.
How to use COLDACT CAPSULE
Take COLDACT CAPSULE as advised by your physician. Swallow this medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you according to your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of COLDACT CAPSULE
Common
- sedation
- disturbance in concentrating, un-coordination, dizziness, headache
- blurred vision
- nausea or vomiting
- tiredness
Rare
- thickening of bronchial secretions
- low blood pressure
- excitability in children
- respiratory depression or difficulty
Stop taking COLDACT CAPSULE and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- drowsiness or sleepiness
- dry mouth, nose and throat
- constipation
- nervousness and irritability
- anxiety, hallucinations
- twitching or jerking muscles
- fast heartbeat, changes in heart rhythm, palpitation
- severe allergic reaction (trouble breathing, swelling of the face, neck, tongue or throat)
- high blood pressure
- severe nausea, vomiting or headache
- difficulty passing urine (in men)
How To Manage Side Effects
Dizziness:
Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume too much of alcohol, as it can aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Nausea and vomiting:
Stick to simple meals while taking this medicine. Avoid eating oily, fried or spicy foods. Do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Headache:
Rest and relax. Drink plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Apply a pain-relieving balm on the forehead if required. Do not consume too much of alcohol. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.
Tiredness:
Drink plenty of fluids and eat balanced diet and frequent meals. Do regular minimal exercise and follow a regular sleep schedule. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve.

Pregnancy
COLDACT CAPSULE is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Breastfeeding
COLDACT CAPSULE is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or use any machines if you feel dizzy or drowsy after taking COLDACT CAPSULE.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking COLDACT CAPSULE as it might interfere with each other.

Kidney
COLDACT CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Liver
COLDACT CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Allergy
Do not take COLDACT CAPSULE if you are allergic to Phenylephrine, Chlorpheniramine, aspirin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Lungs
COLDACT CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with asthma or lower respiratory disorders. COLDACT CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with a history of constricted airways. Consult your doctor before taking it.

Heart Disease
COLDACT CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with severely high blood pressure or coronary artery disease. COLDACT CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with high blood pressure and any other cardiovascular diseases. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Others
COLDACT CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you:
- have a condition in which there is increased pressure inside your eye
- have gastrointestinal obstruction
- have genitourinary obstruction
- have or had stomach or duodenal ulcer
- have bladder and prostate problems
- have diabetes
- high blood pressure (particularly due to a tumour near the kidney)
- have an overactive thyroid gland
Before taking COLDACT CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you:
- have fits
- have problems with blood circulation (including raynaud’s phenomenon, which makes the toes and fingers numb and pale)
- have allergies to foods, preservatives or dyes
Use in pediatrics:
COLDACT CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children under 6 years of age (including neonates and premature infants). It is used in children aged from 6 to 12 years only if advised by the doctor. Consult your child’s doctor for advice.
Use in geriatrics:
COLDACT CAPSULE should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking it.
Interactions
A. Drug - Drug interactions:
Before taking COLDACT CAPSULE, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
- medicines used for depression or Parkinson’s disease (Ex. selegiline, moclobemide and tranylcypromine)
- strong painkillers such as morphine (used to manage severe pain)
- phenytoin (used to manage epilepsy)
- medicines used to help you sleep or relax (Ex. zolpidem)
- any other cough and cold medicines, nasal decongestants
- digoxin (used to manage irregular heartbeat)
- glyceryl trinitrate (used to manage chest pain)
- atenolol (used to manage high blood pressure)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of COLDACT CAPSULE, contact your doctor immediately or visit a nearby hospital. Overdosage symptoms of COLDACT CAPSULE include extreme sleepiness, confusion, weakness, ringing in the ears, blurred vision, large pupils, dry mouth, flushing, fever, shaking, insomnia, hallucinations and possibly seizures.
