    Introduction About CITIFEST 250 INJECTION

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION contains Citicoline which belongs to a group of medicines called Psychostimulants. CITIFEST 250 INJECTION is used in adults to manage disturbances of consciousness that occurs due to head injuries, brain operation, and acute cerebral infraction.

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION is also used to manage Alzheimer’s disease (brain disease that affects memory and thinking skills) and memory loss due to Parkinson’s disease (age related degenerative brain condition). It is also indicated for use in the recovery phase of cerebral infarction (poor blood supply to the brain) in affected individuals. 

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients allergic to Citicoline. It is also not recommended for use in patients suffering from hypertonia (muscle overactivity), persistent intracranial haemorrhages (bleeding inside the brain), and/or severe kidney disease.

    Before receiving CITIFEST 250 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have a history of epilepsy/fits, suffering from depression, scheduled for a surgery, and/or have liver disorders.

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant and breastfeeding women only if it is clearly necessary.

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION is advised to be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) only if it is clearly necessary. It is also advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years) after consulting the doctor.

    The most common side effects of receiving CITIFEST 250 INJECTION are diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain, rash, insomnia (sleeplessness), and/or occurrence/intensification of numbness. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens.

    Uses Of CITIFEST 250 INJECTION

    • Manage disturbances of consciousness that occurs due to head injuries, brain operation, and acute cerebral infraction.
    • Manage Alzheimer’s disease and dementia (memory loss) due to Parkinson’s disease.
    • Helps in the recovery phase of cerebral infarction (poor blood supply to the brain) in affected individuals

    How CITIFEST 250 INJECTION Works

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION works by increasing the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine (chemical that produces acetylcholine, responsible for memory and other bodily functions) which leads to improved cerebral function and cognitive function in Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. It also works by repairing neuronal membranes and damaged cholinergic neurons via potentiation of acetylcholine production and reduction of free fatty acid accumulation at stroke-induced nerve damage site which results in the management neuronal cell death thus helping in the recovery phase of cerebral infarction in affected individuals.

    How to use CITIFEST 250 INJECTION

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as an intravenous infusion or into a muscle as an intramuscular injection. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of CITIFEST 250 INJECTION

    Common

    • diarrhoea, nausea, stomach pain
    • rash
    • insomnia (sleeplessness)
    • occurrence/intensification of numbness

    Uncommon

    • excitation, convulsions
    • general discomfort, anorexia (eating disorder)
    • diplopia (double vision)
    • blood pressure changes
    • shock, shortness of breath
    • distressed feeling of the chest

    Rare

    Stop receiving CITIFEST 250 INJECTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • signs of shock (life threatening condition that occurs due to insufficient blood flow to the body) such as drop in blood pressure, distressed feeling of the chest, and/or shortness of breath

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhea:

    Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.

    Nausea:

    Take CITIFEST 250 INJECTION with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Inform your doctor if the condition worsens.

    Rash:

    Do not scratch the affected area. Wear protective clothing while going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION should be used with caution during pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. Inform your doctor immediately if you get pregnant while on management with CITIFEST 250 INJECTION. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

    Breastfeeding

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION should be used with caution in breastfeeding women only if it is clearly necessary since it is not known whether the medicine passes through breast milk. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines until the full effect of CITIFEST 250 INJECTION is known.

    Alcohol

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while receiving CITIFEST 250 INJECTION because it might the effect of the medicine.

    Kidney

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION is not recommended for use in patients with severe kidney problems. It should be used with caution in patients with mild to moderate kidney disease such as renal impairment. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

    Liver

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION should be received with caution in patients with liver disorders.  Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

    Allergy

    Do not receive CITIFEST 250 INJECTION if you are allergic to Citicoline, and/or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION is not recommended for use if you:

    • are hypertonic (muscle overactivity)
    • suffer from persistent intracranial haemorrhages (persistent bleeding inside the brain)

    Before receiving CITIFEST 250 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:

    • have a history of epilepsy/fits
    • suffer from depression
    • are scheduled for a surgery
    • have trimethylaminuria (fish odour syndrome)

    Use in Paediatrics:

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION should be used with caution in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) only if it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged above 65 years). Consult your doctor before receiving CITIFEST 250 INJECTION.

    Interactions

    A.Drug - Drug interactions:

    Before receiving CITIFEST 250 INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are receiving any of the following medicine:

    • levodopa, carbidopa, entacapone (medicines used to manage Parkinson’s disease)
    • meclofenoxate (used as a dietary supplement to manage dementia)

    CITIFEST 250 INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
