Introduction About CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION
CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION is an antibiotic medicine used in the management of various bacterial infections such as infections of the respiratory tract, throat infections, skin infections, ear infections, sinus infections, lung infections, urinary tract infections, gynecological infections, blood infections, etc. It can also be used as a prophylactic therapy for reducing infection risks post-surgery.
It contains a medicine called Cefuroxime which is a powerful antibiotic agent that works by killing the susceptible organism that causes infection.
CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION should be used under medical supervision. Usually, it is prescribed for 7-10 days to attain better control on infection. Therefore, do not stop taking this medicine or skip doses, as it may make this medicine less effective.
Before receiving CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you are allergic to any antibiotics, have fungal infections, previously experienced anaemia or diarrhoea after taking antibiotics, scheduled for any blood tests, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
The most common side effect of receiving this medicine is pain at the injection site, swelling and redness. Consult your doctor immediately if any of the above symptoms worsen.
Uses Of CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION
CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION is used in the management of severe bacterial infections such as:
- Respiratory tract infections (such as bronchitis, infected bronchiectasis, bacterial pneumonia)
- Ear, nose and throat infections (such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis and otitis media)
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections, Wound infections
- Bone and joint infections
- Gynaecological infections
- Blood infections
- Infection of outer covering of the brain
- Post surgical infections
How CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION Works
CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION contains Cefuroxime which is a second-generation cephalosporin that interferes with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall by binding to specific binding proteins located inside the bacterial cell wall. This leads to breaking down the cell wall of the bacteria and reducing its stability, thus causing cell damage, and eventually causing bacterial elimination.
How to use CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION
CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION will be given to you only by a doctor or nurse by intramuscularly (into a muscle) or intravenously (into the vein). Your doctor will administer the correct dose for you depending upon your age, body weight and severity of infection.
Side Effects Of CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION
Common Side Effects of CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION:
- pain (injection site), swelling and redness along a vein
- increase in liver enzyme
- changes in white blood cells (neutropenia or eosinophilia)
- low levels of red blood cells (anemia)
- high temperature
- sore throat
- skin rashes, urticaria (itchy red wheals), pruritus (bumpy rash)
- gastrointestinal disturbances
- diarrhoea, nausea
- increase in bilirubin (a substance produced by the liver)
- positive coomb’s test
Stop receiving CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION and consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects
- fungal infections
- severe diarrhoea (Pseudomembranous colitis), causing severe diarrhoea, usually with blood and mucus, stomach pain, and fever

Pregnancy
Consult your doctorThe safety of Cefuroxime during pregnancy has not been clearly established. Therefore, your doctor will advise you to use CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION after analysing the risks and benefits of the therapy.

Breastfeeding
Use with CautionCETIL 1.5GM INJECTION should be used with caution during breastfeeding as it may pass into the breast milk.

Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionDo not drive or operate heavy machines if you feel dizziness after receiving CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION.

Kidney
Use with CautionCETIL 1.5GM INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with a history of kidney problems.

Liver
Use with CautionCETIL 1.5GM INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with a history of liver problems.

Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not receive CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to Cefuroxime, cephalosporin, penicillin, monobactams, carbapenems or to any other ingredients of this medicine.

Use In Pediatrics
ContraindicatedCETIL 1.5GM INJECTION should be used in children aged below 18 years only if advised by the physician. Your doctor will administer the right dose depends on your child’s age, body weight and severity of the infection.

Use In Geriatrics
Use with CautionCETIL 1.5GM INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients suffering kidney problems. Consult your doctor before receiving.
Others
CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION is not recommended if you have:
- severe persistent diarrhoea along with sickness
Before receiving CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION inform your doctor if you:
- have gastrointestinal disorder (diarrhoea)
- have fungal infection
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before receiving CETIL 1.5GM INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are receiving any of the following medicine:
- Other antibiotics (Ex. gentamycin)
- Diuretics (Ex. furosemide)
- Anti-gout agents (Ex. probenecid)
- Oral anticoagulants (Ex. warfarin)
- Birth control pills (Ex. ethinyl estradiol)
Overdosage:
It is unlikely to receive overdose since it will be administered by the doctor or nurse. If you experience any unusual side effects, consult your doctor immediately.
