INTRODUCTION

TOPATE 50MG contains Topiramate which belongs to a group of medicines called anti-epileptic medicines. It is used to treat seizures in both adults as well as in children. It can also be used to prevent migraine headaches in adults. A seizure is a sudden, uncontrollable electrical changes or disturbance in your brain. It may cause changes in behavior, movements or feelings and in levels of consciousness. Topiramate prevents the occurrence of seizures and prevents migraine symptoms by reducing neural pathway excitability.

You might shed your weight if you use topiramate continuously. If you are losing too much weight, you should consult your doctor. You can take topiramate with or without food. Drink plenty of fluids during the day to prevent kidney stones while taking topiramate tablets. You should avoid drinking alcohol when taking topiramate tablet. This medicine can harm an unborn baby. So, it is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Mothers who breastfeed while taking TOPATE 50MG, must tell the doctor as soon as possible if the baby experiences anything unusual.

HOW TOPATE 50MG WORKS

Topiramate stimulates GABA-A receptor activity at brain, a non-benzodiazepine receptor sites and reduces glutamate activity at both AMPA and kinate receptors. By increasing GABA activity and inhibiting glutamate activity, topiramate blocks neuronal excitability, preventing seizures and migraine.
