INTRODUCTION

TETANUS TOXOID contains Tetanus Toxoid which belongs to the group of medicines called Bacterial vaccines. It is used to offer protection against tetanus infection. Tetanus (also known as lock jaw) is a serious bacterial infection caused by the bacterium called Clostridium tetani. It locks the muscles of the jaw and neck of the infected patients and makes it hard for them to open their mouth or swallow.

Tetanus toxoid vaccine offers immunity against tetanus by causing a mild infection. It stimulates our body to produce protective antibodies against the bacteria that causes tetanus.

Tetanus vaccine is recommended by WHO as a part childhood and adult vaccination programme. A booster dose of tetanus vaccine is generally recommended for once in every 10 years to maintain protection over time. It can also be taken following any recent wounds or injuries which involves the risks of acquiring tetanus infection.

TETANUS TOXOID cannot cure an active tetanus infection that has been already developed in the body. It can only be used to protect you from getting infected before exposing yourself to the susceptible bacteria.

Do not receive TETANUS TOXOID if you have any acute infection or have previous allergies to vaccines or blood products. TETANUS TOXOID can be used in pregnant and breastfeeding women if prescribed by the physician.

TETANUS TOXOID is generally safe and does not cause any side effects. It may cause few minor side effects like pain and redness at injection site or mild fever. These side effects are usually temporary and disappears within a few days. However, consult your doctor if they worsen.

HOW TETANUS TOXOID WORKS

TETANUS TOXOID offers immunity against tetanus by causing a mild infection. It contains inactivated bacteria that causes tetanus.
