What is TANTUM GEL used for?
TANTUM GEL is a topical analgesic (oral rinse/gel) used to relieve painful mouth and throat conditions such as mouth ulcers, sore gums and sore throat. TANTUM GEL is also used to treat pain and inflammation following dental surgery. TANTUM GEL is indicated as well for relief from pain and inflammatory conditions associated with sore throat or mouth sores caused by radiation therapy.
TANTUM GEL belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). This drug helps stop pain by blocking the formation of certain chemicals called prostaglandins in the body.
TANTUM GEL may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How to take TANTUM GEL?
The dosage of TANTUM GEL prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.
Do not swallow TANTUM GEL oral rinse or gel. The prescribed amount of TANTUM GEL should be used as a mouth wash around the mouth or as a gargle in the throat, for at least 30 seconds, and then it should be spit out.
If your physician has instructed or directed you to use TANTUM GEL medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, use it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses to catch up for the missed dose.
Any medication used in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose of TANTUM GEL, seek medical attention immediately.
What should you tell your doctor before taking TANTUM GEL?
Before using TANTUM GEL, tell your doctor if you have kidney problems. Also, tell your doctor if you are planning to become pregnant, are pregnant, or are breast-feeding. Care should be taken to avoid contact of the TANTUM GEL oral rinse/gel with eyes.
