SPECTRAXIME contain cefuroxime which belongs to a group of medicine called cephalosporin antibiotics. It is an antibiotic used in adults and children to treat infections of lungs or chest, urinary tract, skin and soft tissue, abdomen and also helps to prevent infections during surgery. It works by preventing bacteria from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall). This causes the cell walls to rupture resulting in the death of the bacteria.
The common side effects are injection site pain, swelling and redness along the vein, increases in substances (enzymes) produced by the liver, neutropenia or eosinophilia, anaemia. This medicine will be administered by a doctor or nurse. SPECTRAXIME will be given as a drip (intravenous infusion) or as an injection directly into a vein or into a muscle. Your doctor will decide the dose and frequency depending on your condition. Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have ever had kidney disease, heart disease, liver problems. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking this medicine.

Diarrhoea:
Drink lot of fluids, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines without consulting to a doctor.

SPECTRAXIME should be used with caution in breast feeding women. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Do not drive or operate any machine while taking this medicine since it may cause feel unwell.
Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with SPECTRAXIME.
SPECTRAXIME should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
SPECTRAXIME should be used with caution in patients suffering from liver function impairment or active liver diseases. Consult your doctor for advice.
Do not take SPECTRAXIME if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to cefuroxime or any other ingredients in this medicine.

Is SPECTRAXIME better than amoxicillin?
It is an antibiotic which is useful in treating bacterial infections. Amoxicillin is also an effective and cheap antibiotic which is used to treat many types of bacterial infections. The only difference among these medicines is the response of the medicine to the infection, as it varies from person to person. The effectiveness of two daily dose of this medicine is same as three daily doses of amoxicillin.
Can I take SPECTRAXIME during kidney disease?
It should be used with caution in patients suffering from active kidney diseases.
