The common side effects of receiving REGLAN are drowsiness, uncontrollable movements of body (such as shaking, tics, twisting movements or muscle stiffness or rigidity), tremor and rigidity similar to parkinson’s disease, restlessness, diarrhoea and feeling weak. Informs your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side-effects.
How REGLAN is administered?
REGLAN will be given to you only by a doctor or a nurse into a vein as a slow injection (at least 3 minutes) or can be given as an injection into the muscle (intramuscularly). Your doctor will determine the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
What is REGLAN and why is it given?
REGLAN contains metoclopramide which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-emetics. It is indicated for both adults and children (aged 1 to 18 years) to prevent nausea and vomiting which may occur after surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy. It can also be used to treat nausea and vomiting which is associated with migraine in adults.
How long does it take for REGLAN to act?
When REGLAN is given intravenously, it starts acting within 1 to 3 minutes and if given intramuscularly (into a muscle) it may take up to 10 to 15 minutes. This effect lasts only for 1 to 2 hours. However, this may vary from person to person depending upon the condition. Ask for your doctor’s advice depending upon your specific condition.
Does REGLAN increases blood pressure?
REGLAN releases catecholamines which is a nerve chemical thought to increase the risk of high blood pressure. It must be used with caution in patients with pre-existing hypertension to prevent the risk of any unusual or serious problems. Ask for your doctor’s advice before receiving REGLAN.
Is REGLAN safe to use during pregnancy?
REGLAN is not recommend for use during the first 3 months of pregnancy. It should be used with caution during pregnancy only if clearly advised by your doctor. Consult your doctor before receiving REGLAN if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant.
