What PROSTAL 10/20MG is used for?

It is used to treat nausea or vomiting associated with

  • Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD)
  • Ulcers in the upper part of the intestine (duodenal ulcer) or stomach (gastric ulcer)

Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to domperidone or any of the other ingredients of PROSTAL 10/20MG
  • have black, tarry bowel motions (stools) or notice blood in your bowel motions
  • have a blockage or tear in your intestines
  • have a tumour of the pituitary gland called a prolactinoma
  • have a moderate or severe liver or kidney disease
  • have heart problem called "prolonged QT corrected interval"
  • have a problem that gives you a low level of potassium or magnesium, or a high level of potassium in your blood
  • have AIDS/HIV
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
  • PROSTAL 10/20MG is not recommended for use in children
  • You may feel sleepy, confused or have less control over your movements while taking this medicine. If this happens, do not drive or use any tools or machines

Talk to your doctor, if you are taking,

  • Anti-fungal, specifically oral Ketoconazole, Fluconazole or Voriconazole, Itraconazole, Posaconazole
  • Certain antibiotics such as Clarithromycin, Telithromycin, Moxifloxacin, Pentamidine
  • Amiodarone, Digoxin, Dronedarone, Quinidine, Disopyramide, Dofetilide, Sotalol, Diltiazem, Verapamil, used in the management of heart condition
  • Haloperidol, Pimozide, Sertindole
  • Cisapride, Dolasetron, Prucalopride
  • Mequitazine, Mizolastine
  • Diazepam (used to treat anxiety, relax muscles or in epilepsy)
  • Phenytoin (used in epilepsy)
  • Medicines used to thin the blood, such as warfarin or other vitamin K blockers.
  • Rifampicin (used to treat tuberculosis)
  • Saquinavir, Atazanavir (used to treat HIV infection)
  • Tacrolimus (in cases of organ transplantation)
  • Cilostazol (used to treat intermittent claudication)
  • Clopidogrel (used to prevent blood clots (thrombi))
  • Erlotinib (used to treat cancer)
  • Always take PROSTAL 10/20MG exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor if you are not sure
  • For oral use only
  • This medicine must be swallowed with a glass of water. Take the medicine 15 to 30 minutes before meals and, if needed, before you go to bed

If you take more PROSTAL 10/20MG

  • If you or someone else have used or taken too much PROSTAL 10/20MG, contact your doctor, nearest hospital casualty department or the poison center immediately, in particular if a child has taken too much

If you forget to take PROSTAL 10/20MG

  • If you miss a dose, take your medicine as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until that is due and continue as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking PROSTAL 10/20MG

  • Before stop using this medicine consult with your doctor
Very Rare

Like all medicine PROSTAL 10/20MG can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.


  • swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, face, lips or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing
  • itchy, lumpy rash (hives) or nettle rash (urticaria)
  • uncontrolled movements.


  • reddening of the skin with blisters or peeling. There may also be severe blisters and bleeding in the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals – this could be ‘Stevens-Johnson Syndrome’ or ‘toxic epidermal necrolysis’
  • yellow skin, dark urine and tiredness which can be symptoms of liver problems


  • dry mouth


  • headache
  • effects on your stomach or gut: diarrhoea, stomach pain, constipation, wind (flatulence)
  • nausea or vomiting
  • benign polyps in the stomach


  • anxiety
  • loss of interest in sex or diminished interest in sex
  • sleepiness or headache
  • diarrhoea
  • rash or itchiness
  • painful or tender breasts, or discharge from breasts
  • a general feeling of weakness


  • swelling of the feet and ankles
  • disturbed sleep (insomnia)
  • dizziness, tingling feelings such as “pins and needles”, feeling sleepy
  • spinning feeling (vertigo)
  • changes in blood tests that check how the liver is working
  • skin rash, lumpy rash (hives) and itchy skin
  • generally feeling unwell and lacking energy


  • allergic reactions, sometimes very severe, including swelling of the lips, tongue and throat, fever, wheezing
  • low levels of sodium in the blood
  • feeling agitated, confused or depressed
  • taste changes
  • eyesight problems such as blurred vision
  • suddenly feeling wheezy or short of breath (bronchospasm)
  • dry mouth
  • an inflammation of the inside of the mouth
  • an infection called “thrush” which can affect the gut and is caused by a fungus
  • hair loss (alopecia)
  • skin rash on exposure to sunshine
  • joint pains (arthralgia) or muscle pains (myalgia)
  • severe kidney problems (interstitial nephritis)
  • increased sweating


  • changes in blood count including agranulocytosis (lack of white blood cells)
  • aggression
  • seeing, feeling or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations)
  • severe liver problems leading to liver failure and inflammation of the brain
  • sudden onset of a severe rash or blistering or peeling skin. this may be associated with a high fever and joint pains (erythema multiforme, stevens-johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • muscle weakness
  • enlarged breasts in men
