What MUPINASE is used for?

  • It is a prescription medicine used on the skin (topical use) to treat certain skin infections caused by bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes

Talk to your doctor before using this medicine, if you:

  • are allergic to Mupirocin or to any of the ingredients in MUPINASE
  • If you are breastfeeding and if you use MUPINASE cream on your breast or nipple, wash the area well before breastfeeding your child
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine
  • It is not known if MUPINASE is safe and effective in children under 3 months of age


  • Tell your doctor if you are using other topical medications
  • Always apply this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • MUPINASE is for use on the skin (topical)
  • Do not use MUPINASE in your eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina (mucosal surfaces)
  • Apply a small amount of MUPINASE, with a cotton swab or gauze pad, to the affected area 3 times each day
  • Apply this medicine for 10 days
  • It is important that you use the full course of MUPINASE cream
  • Do not stop early because your symptoms may disappear before the infection is fully cleared
  • Wash your hands before and after applying MUPINASE 
  • After applying MUPINASE cream, you may cover the treated area with a clean gauze pad, unless your healthcare provider has told you to leave it uncovered

If you use more MUPINASE 

  • If you apply too much, talk to your doctor or go to hospital

If you forget to use MUPINASE

  • If you forget to apply your MUPINASE, apply it as soon as you remember
  • If it is close to the time you are next meant to apply it, wait until this time
  • Do not apply extra MUPINASE to make up for a missed dose

If you stop using MUPINASE 

  • If you use MUPINASE regularly make sure you talk to your doctor before you stop using it as your condition may get worse if stopped suddenly
Very Rare

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

  • hives
  • swelling of your face, lips, mouth, or tongue of a rash over your whole body
  • trouble breathing or wheezing
  • dizziness, fast heartbeat, or pounding in your chest
  • skin and eye irritation
  • a type of diarrhea called clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD)
  • headache
  • rash
  • nausea
