INTRODUCTION

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION is a combination of Ceftriaxone and Tazobactam which belongs to the group of medicines called Antibiotics. It is used to treat several bacterial infections like lower respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, acute bacterial otitis media lower respiratory tract infections, pneumonia, infection in the ear, skin, urinary tract infections, gonorrhoea, pelvic inflammatory disease, bacterial septicaemia, bone and joint infections, intra-abdominal infections, including peritonitis and biliary tract infections, bacterial meningitis, surgical prophylaxis (pre-operative antibiotics, infections in neutropenic patients).

Pneumonia is an infection which causes inflammation in the air sac producing cough with phlegm and shortness of breath. Urinary tract infection affects the urinary bladder later gets spreads to the kidneys. Bacteraemia is an infectious condition indicating presence of bacteria in the blood stream. Bacterial meningitis is an infection caused by bacteria in the region surrounding the brain. Neutropenic is low levels of neutrophils (a type of white blood cells) in our body.

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION should not be used in patients allergic to penicillin antibiotics, cefepime, tazobactam and other beta-lactam antibiotics.

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with or history of allergic reactions, diarrhoea, gastrointestinal disease (colitis) kidney and liver diseases.

Avoid concomitant use of other antibiotics and diuretics along with MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION. MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant and breast-feeding women. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in new-borns, children and adolescents. MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION is not recommended for use in pre-mature babies and in children with or history of jaundice and hyperbilirubinemia. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly people. The common side effect of receiving MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and skin allergies. Consult your doctor if any of the above side effects worsen or persist for a longer duration.

It is used to treat bacterial infections such as:

• sexually transmitted disease (gonorrhoea affecting cervix, urethra and rectal)

• surgical prophylaxis (pre-operative antibiotics)
• infections in neutropenic patients

HOW MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION WORKS

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION works by destroying the bacterial growth responsible for causing infections. MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION have combination of Ceftriaxone and Tazobactam where Ceftriaxone works by interrupting the cell wall formation by binding with the enzymes responsible for cell wall synthesis. This binding causes defects in the cell wall leading to cell death causing death of the organism. Tazobactam present in MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION is responsible for the irreversible termination of enzymes (beta- lactamases) that protect the organism from antibiotics. Thus, produces less anti-bacterial actions when given alone so it’s always used in combination with other antibiotics. Thus, both the substances works by inhibiting the bacterial growth.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION will be administered into the vein (intravenously) or into the muscle (intramuscularly) by your doctor or nurse. Your doctor will administer the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea or Vomiting:

Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light, bland foods. Avoid fried, greasy or sweet foods. Eat slowly and eat smaller, more frequent meals, drinking gradually larger amounts of clear liquids, avoid solid food until the vomiting episode has passed, take rest. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in pregnant women only if clearly needed. Consult your doctor before taking MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION.

BREASTFEEDING

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in breastfeeding women as it may pass into the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or handle heavy machines if you experience side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, tired or if you have blurred vision while taking this MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION.

ALCOHOL

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION.

KIDNEY

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. Consult your doctor before taking MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION.

LIVER

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION.

ALLERGY

Do not take if you are allergic to Ceftriaxone, Tazobactam, other beta- lactam or any other ingredients of this medicine.

LUNGS

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with pneumonia. Consult your doctor before taking.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before taking MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

• other antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections (Ex. chloramphenicol)
• medicines used to treat fluid accumulation (Ex. furosemide)
• probenecid (used to treat gout)
• disulfiram (used to treat alcohol dependence)
• medicines used to prevent pregnancy (Ex. ethinyl estradiol, estradiol)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally took more of MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

MONTAZ 500MG INJECTION will start working once it is injected in the blood stream. It will work faster compared with oral antibiotics as it is injected directly into the blood stream. However full course of antibiotic should be given to obtain its efficacy. Your doctor will decide the dose adjustments and termination of the medicine depending upon your health condition.
