    Introduction About MEVA C CAPSULE

    MEVA C CAPSULE is a combination of Chlordiazepoxide and Mebeverine which belongs to the group of medicines called Antianxiety drugs and Antispasmodics respectively. It is used in the management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and other digestive problems caused due to excessive stress such as peptic ulcer, Crohn’s disease and Colitis.

    It helps in relieving painful stomach cramps, bloating, indigestion and other symptoms of IBS and also reduces the excessive tension and anxiety associated with IBS. MEVA C CAPSULE preferably taken before or with meals.

    During the management, follow a fiber-rich diet and drink plenty of water as instructed by your doctor to achieve better results. Restrict the foods that does not suits your gut. If you find that certain foods increase your symptoms, then it makes sense not to eat them.

    Before taking MEVA C CAPSULE inform your doctor if you have any lung, liver or kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have any breathing problems, muscle problems, mental illnesses, or an habit of drug abuse or chronic alcoholism as a precaution.

    Do not take MEVA C CAPSULE without consulting your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects of taking MEVA C CAPSULE are tiredness, weakness, headache, dizziness, sleepiness, loss of balance, poor muscle control, problems in passing urine, reduced sex drive and irregular periods. Consult your doctor if any of these side effects trouble you.

    It is used in the management of:

    • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS; painful stomach cramps, bloating, indigestion)
    • Peptic ulcer, Crohn’s disease or Colitis
    • Excessive tension and anxiety associated with IBS

    How MEVA C CAPSULE Works

    MEVA C CAPSULE contains two medicines namely chlordiazepoxide and mebeverine. Chlordiazepoxide is an antianxiety medication. It suppresses the abnormal electrical activity within the brain and induces calmness. This helps in the management of anxiety caused due to IBS.

    Mebeverine is a smooth muscle relaxant. It reduces stomach cramps by relaxing the smooth muscles present in the stomach and in the intestines. Collectively, these actions reduce stomach cramps, signs of indigestion and nervousness associated with IBS.

    How to use MEVA C CAPSULE

    Take MEVA C CAPSULE as advised by your physician. It is preferably taken before or with meals. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine.

    Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Do not stop taking MEVA C CAPSULE unless your doctor advice you to stop.

    Side Effects Of MEVA C CAPSULE

    Common

    • drowsiness and light headedness especially on the next day
    • tiredness, dizziness, sleepiness
    • loss of balance, unsteadiness or clumsiness
    • poor muscle co-ordination
    • confusion
    • slow or difficulty in speech

    Rare

    • headache
    • vertigo (spinning sensation)
    • low blood pressure
    • stomach upsets
    • skin rashes
    • problems with your eyesight
    • changes in the level of sexual desire
    • problems in passing urine, urge to pee
    • impotence
    • menstrual irregularities

    Stop taking MEVA C CAPSULE and inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects such as:

    • severe allergic reactions (such as skin rash, itching, swelling of the lips, face or body and difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
    • suicidal thoughts or worsening of depression
    • behavioural changes
    • yellowing of the skin or eyes
    • low blood counts causing weakness, pale skin, bleeding problems, sore throat and frequent infections

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Dizziness Or Drowsiness

    Try to rest and relax. Get enough sleep. Avoid driving or operating any tools or machines completely while you are feeling dizzy. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your dizziness. Consult your doctor if your dizziness worsens.

    Headache

    Rest and relax. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water or electrolytes. Applying a pain-relieving balm on your forehead can be beneficial. Do not consume excessive alcohol, as it could aggravate your headache. Consult your doctor if your headache worsens.

    Pregnancy

    Monitoring required

    MEVA C CAPSULE may affect the unborn baby. Therefore, it should be used in pregnant women only if it is considered necessary by the physician. Women of childbearing potential must use an effective contraceptive method to avoid pregnancy while taking this medicine.

    Breastfeeding

    Contraindicated

    MEVA C CAPSULE may pass through the breast milk. Therefore, it is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor for advice before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Use with Caution

    MEVA C CAPSULE may induce drowsiness, tiredness and poor muscle control. Therefore, do not drive or handle heavy tools or machines if your ability is affected by MEVA C CAPSULE.

    Alcohol

    Consult your doctor

    Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking MEVA C CAPSULE, as it could aggravate your existing condition.

    Kidney

    Use with Caution

    MEVA C CAPSULE should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    Liver

    Consult your doctor

    MEVA C CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver problems. It should be used with caution in patients with other mild liver problems. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Contraindicated

    Do not take MEVA C CAPSULE if you are allergic to Chlordiazepoxide or to Mebeverine.

    Lungs

    Contraindicated

    MEVA C CAPSULE is not recommended for use in patients with lung diseases or breathing difficulties. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use In Pediatrics

    Contraindicated

    MEVA C CAPSULE is not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) due to lack of safety data. Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use In Geriatrics

    Use with Caution

    MEVA C CAPSULE should be used with caution in the elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Therefore, consult your doctor before taking it.

    Others

    MEVA C CAPSULE is not recommended for use if you:

    • have myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness)
    • have any mental illnesses
    • have abnormal body movements

    Before taking MEVA C CAPSULE inform your doctor if you:

    • have depression
    • have a previous history of mental illnesses
    • have an habit of alcoholism or drug abuse

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking MEVA C CAPSULE inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines such as:

    • medicines used to manage psychiatric disorders (such as pimozide, haloperidol, risperidone, thioridazine, fluphenazine, chlorpromazine, clozapine) or selegiline
    • medicine used to manage depression like monoamine oxidase inhibitors (Ex. tranylcypromine, moclobemide iproniazid, nialamide, isocarboxazid, toloxatone)
    • medicines that reduce anxiety and induces sleep (Ex. diazepam, clonazepam, lorazepam, midazolam)
    • medicines used for pain relief (such as tramadol, ibuprofen)
    • anesthetics (medicines causing loss of sensation or consciousness) such as sevoflurane, propofol, etc.
    • medicines used to manage allergic conditions (such as chlorphenamine)
    • medicines used to manage fits (such as phenytoin and phenobarbital)
    • rifampicin (an antibiotic used in the management of Tuberculosis)
    • cimetidine, omeprazole (medicines used for stomach ulcers)
    • medicines used to manage bacterial infections (such as erythromycin)
    • disulfiram (a medicine used to quit alcoholism)
    • contraceptive agents (birth control pills) Ex. mifepristone
    • medicines used to manage viral infections (Ex. ritonavir)
    • medicines used to manage high blood pressure (such as atenolol, propranolol, moxonidine)
    • medicines used to manage blood clots (such as heparin, warfarin)
    • cardiac glycosides (such as digoxin) used to manage abnormal heart rhythm
    • levodopa (a medicine used to manage parkinsonism)
    • sodium oxybate (a medicine used to manage narcolepsy)
    • theophylline (a medicine used to manage asthma)
    • opioids (medicines used for pain relief) such as morphine, codeine, pethidine, fentanyl

    B. Drug-Food interaction:

    Try to take this medicine before or with meals to achieve maximum efficacy.

    If you or anyone else accidentally took more MEVA C CAPSULE, contact your doctor immediately or go to a hospital straight away.
