INTRODUCTION

METATOP NASAL SPRAY contains Mometasone which belongs to the group of medicines called Corticosteroids. METATOP NASAL SPRAY is used to treat the symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) and perennial rhinitis in adults and children aged 2 and older. This medicine is also used to treat nasal polyps in adults aged 18 and over.

Hay Fever is an allergic reaction which occurs due to breathing in pollen from trees, grasses, weeds, molds and fungal spores generally characterized by blocked or runny nose, sneezing and coughing.

Perennial rhinitis is an inflammatory condition which occurs due to sensitivity to a variety of things such as house dust mite, animal hair, feathers and certain foods characterized by symptoms such as blocked nose, sneezing, itching that might occur for an hour or more on most days throughout the year.

Nasal polyps are small growths on the lining of the nose which usually affects both nostrils generally characterized by runny nose, and stuffiness.

Avoid using METATOP NASAL SPRAY, if you are allergic to Mometasone, and or have an untreated infection in your nose such as herpes, recent injury or operation on your nose.

Before using METATOP NASAL SPRAY, inform your doctor if you have kidney, or liver disease. METATOP NASAL SPRAY should be used in pregnant women only if it is clearly necessary. It should be used with caution in breastfeeding women.

Your doctor will give the right dose depends on your child’s age, body weight and disease condition. Consult your doctor before using METATOP NASAL SPRAY.

The most common side effects of using METATOP NASAL SPRAY are headache, sneezing, nose bleeds, sore nose or throat, ulcers in the nose and or respiratory tract infection. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms gets worsen.

HOW METATOP NASAL SPRAY WORKS

METATOP NASAL SPRAY works by reducing the swelling and irritation in the nose thereby providing relief from sneezing, itching, or a blocked-up or runny nose due to hay fever or perennial rhinitis. In nasal polyps, it relieves the blocked feeling in the nose by reducing the inflammation in the nose thereby enabling easy breathing through the nose.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always use METATOP NASAL SPRAY as directed by your physician. It is for intranasal use only. Shake well before each use. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. Check the label for directions for use.

RARE

Stop using METATOP NASAL SPRAY and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Try to take rest and do not involve yourself in exertive activities. You can apply a pain-relieving balm on your forehead. Your doctor might suggest you some painkillers. Ask for your doctor’s advice if headache doesn’t improve.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

There is little information on the use of METATOP NASAL SPRAY in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before using METATOP NASAL SPRAY.

BREASTFEEDING

It is not known if METATOP NASAL SPRAY is found in breast milk, hence consult your doctor before using METATOP NASAL SPRAY.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

METATOP NASAL SPRAY has no known influence on the ability to drive or operate machines. Consult your doctor before using METATOP NASAL SPRAY.

ALLERGY

Do not use METATOP NASAL SPRAY if you are allergic to Mometasone, or to any other ingredients of this medicine.

OTHERS

METATOP NASAL SPRAY is not recommended for use if you have:

  • have an untreated infection in your nose such as herpes
  • had a recent operation on your nose
  • had a recent injury to your nose

Before using METATOP NASAL SPRAY, inform your doctor if you:

  • have or had tuberculosis
  • have any other type of infection
  • have cystic fibrosis  

Use in pediatrics:

Your doctor will give the right dose depends on your child’s age, body weight and disease condition. Consult your doctor before using METATOP NASAL SPRAY.

Use in geriatrics:

METATOP NASAL SPRAY should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 60 years or above). Consult your doctor before using METATOP NASAL SPRAY.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before using METATOP NASAL SPRAY, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • ritonavir, cobicistat (medicines used for HIV)
  • other corticosteroid medicines for allergy either oral or injection (Ex. fluticasone propionate, triamcinolone, oxymetazoline)

Overdosage:

If you or anyone else accidentally uses too much of METATOP NASAL SPRAY, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
