What KOLIBITOR is used for?

  • It can be used to treat or prevent infections such as lung (pneumonia), toxoplasmosis
  • It is used to treat infections of urinary bladder or urinary tract, respiratory tract, ear and nocardiosis (an infection which affect the lungs, skin and brain)

Talk to your doctor if you:

  • are allergic to any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • have severe kidney or liver disease
  • have blood disorder
  • have porphyria (affects skin or nervous system)
  • have asthma
  • have Stevens-Johnson syndrome
  • have toxic epidermal necrolysis
  • have anaemia
  • have phenylketonuria (decrease in phenylalanine)
  • are underweight or malnourished
  • have hyperkalemia (potassium in blood)
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before receiving this medicine
  • This medicine is recommended to children and adolescents
  • Your doctor will give the right dose depends on your child’s age and body weight

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • spironolactone (help to increase the amount of urine)
  • pyrimethamine (used to treat and prevent malaria, and to treat diarrhoea)
  • ciclosporin (used after organ transplant surgeries)
  • warfarin (used to treat blood clot)
  • phenytoin (used to treat epilepsy)
  • glibenclamide, glipizide or tolbutamide (sulphonylureas) and repaglinide (used to treat diabetes)
  • digoxin or procainamide (used to treat heart problems)
  • amantadine (used to treat Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, flu or shingles)
  • zidovudine or lamivudine (used to treat HIV)
  • methotrexate (used to treat certain cancers or certain diseases affecting immune system)
  • rifampicin (used to treat infection)
  • folinic acid
  • contraceptive medicines (used to prevent pregnancy)
  • This medicine will be given by a doctor or nurse

If you given more KOLIBITOR

  • If you given more of this medicine, contact your doctor or go to a nearest hospital immediately
  • Symptoms of overdose: feeling sick, dizziness or confusion

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very Rare
  • allergic reactions: difficulty in breathing, fainting, swelling of face, mouth, tongue or throat which may be red and painful and/or cause difficulty in swallowing, chest pain and red patches on skin
  • abnormal heart beats (palpitations)
  • thrush or candidiasis (affect mouth or vagina)
  • headache, nausea, diarrhoea
  • skin rashes
  • vomiting
  • fever (high temperature) or infections
  • mouth ulcers, cold sores and ulcers or soreness of your tongue
  • skin lumps or hives (raised, red or white, itchy patches of skin)
  • inflammation of the eye (pain and redness)
  • low levels of sodium in blood
  • changes in blood tests
  • anaemia
  • heart problems
  • jaundice (the skin and the whites of your eyes turn yellow)
  • pains in stomach, which can occur with blood in your faeces (stools)
  • arthritis
  • fits (convulsions or seizures)
  • ringing or other unusual sounds in your ears
  • tingling or numbness in your hands and feet
  • seeing strange or unusual sights (hallucinations)
  • depression
  • loss of appetite
