What IOTIM PLUS is used for?

It is used to treat:

  • glaucoma and ocular hypertension

Talk to your doctor if you:

  • are allergic to any other ingredients in this medicine
  • have or had respiratory problems such as asthma, severe chronic obstructive bronchitis
  • have hayfever or allergic rhinitis
  • have a slow heartbeat, heart failure or disorders of heart rhythm
  • have inflammation of the iris, the coloured part of your eye (anterior uveitis)
  • have damage to the front of your eye (corneal damage)
  • have glaucoma
  • have eye diseases where constriction of the pupil (miosis)
  • poor blood circulation disease like Raynaud’s disease or Raynaud’s syndrome
  • have diabetes
  • have overactivity of the thyroid gland
  • have low blood pressure
  • have gastrointestinal or urinary problems
  • have tumour of the adrenal glands (phaeochromocytoma)
  • have a disorder of acid-base balance (metabolic acidosis)
  • If you are pregnant or breast feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine
  • This medicine is not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor for advice
  • Do not drive or operate any machines while using this medicine since it may cause distance vision (impair far sight) or blurred vision

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • reserpine or calcium channel blockers or  betablockers (used to treat blood pressure)
  • insulin, oral anti-diabetes medicines (medication for diabetes)
  • anti-inflammatory drugs (drugs used to treat arthritis and other inflammation and used as painkillers)
  • fluoxetine and paroxetine (drugs used to treat depression)
  • cimetidine (used to treat excess stomach acid)
  • quinidine (used to treat heart conditions and some types of malaria) 
  • corticosteroids (powerful anti-inflammatory drugs) 
  • mefloquine (used to treat malaria)
  • depolarising muscle relaxants (drugs used for easing of or reduction in muscle tension)
  • antihistamines (drugs used in treatment of allergies)
  • petidine (used as strong painkilling substance)
  • systemic anticholinergics (drugs used to interrupt nerval stimulation for specific muscle types)
  • glycosides (drugs used to treat heart insufficiency)
  • rauwolfia alkaloids (drugs used to treat high blood pressure)
  • Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • Shake well before use
  • For eye drops only

If you use more  IOTIM PLUS

  • If you use more of this medicine, talk to your doctor or go to your nearest hospital immediately
  • Symptoms of overdose: headache, sweating, watering of the mouth (salivation), feeling sick (nausea), watery eyes, red eyes, heart problems (slow heart rate, acute heart failure), low blood pressure, dizziness, confusion, difficulties to breath, and fits (convulsions)

If you forget to use IOTIM PLUS

  • If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember it, however if it is nearly time for the next dose skip the missed dose
  • Do not use double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop using IOTIM PLUS

  • Do not stop using this medicine unless your doctor tells to do so

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

Very Rare
  • temporary (transient) stinging and burning
  • blurred vision
  •  increased tear production
  • spasm of inner ocular muscles
  • redness of the eye
  • eye pain
  • itching
  • irritation
  • short-sightedness
  • reduced ability to see details in poor lighting conditions
  • headache
  • reduced sensitivity of the front of the eye (decreased corneal sensitivity)
  • small spot like areas of inflammation on the surface of the eye
  • difficulties to breath
  • depression
  • feeling sick (nausea)
  • fall in blood pressure
  • slow heartbeat 
  • exhaustion
  • detachment of the retina from the back of the eye (retinal detachment)
  • bleeding inside the eye (vitreous hemorrhage)
  • loss of movement of the coloured part of the eye (rigidity of iris)
  • small lumps appearing on the coloured part of the eye (iris cysts)
  • enlarged blood vessels in the coloured part of the eye (vascular dilatation of the iris)
  • contraction of the eyelids
  • narrowing of the front part of the eye (anterior chamber)
  • reversible cloudiness of the lens (lens opacity) resulting from long-term use of one of the drugs in
  • reduced tear fluid (dry eye syndrome)
  • inflammation of the eyelids and eye
  • visual disturbances
  • double vision
  • drooping eye lid
  • shortness of breath (especially in patients with asthma and heart insufficiency)
  • blocked nose or stuffiness (nasal congestion)
  • hallucinations
  • anxiety
  • nightmares
  • generalised weakness
  • dizziness
  • confusion
  • runny stools (diarrhoea)
  • abnormal rhythms of the heart (arrhythmia)
  • decreased blood circulation in the fingers and toes and the brain
  • hypotension
  • rash, itching (urticaria), hair loss (alopecia)
  • sweating
