INDAPAMIDE SR 1.5MG contains Indapamide which belongs to a group of medicines called diuretics (water tablets). It works by causing the kidneys to get rid of unwanted water and salt from the body into the urine and thus helps in treating high blood pressure. INDAPAMIDE SR 1.5MG acts on the kidneys to boost the elimination of sodium, potassium and water in the urine thus resulting in increased urination. This reduces the fluid in blood vessels and body tissues and lowers blood pressure. Indapamide causes a slight increase in the amount of urine produced than the other diuretics. It also widens blood vessels so that blood passes through more easily.
The recommended dose is one tablet (2.5mg) each day which should be swallowed with a glass of water. It is advised that the tablet be taken in the morning or as directed by the physician. Do not take INDAPAMIDE SR 1.5MG if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Consult your doctor for advice. The side effects are inflammation of mucous membranes (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome), irregular heartbeat, tiredness, loss of appetite, feeling or being sick, swollen extremities, yellow skin (Symptoms of abnormal liver function).
