INTRODUCTION

GIT 50MG contains itopride which belongs to gastroprokinetic agents. Prokinetic agents are medications that help control acid reflux. It causes the contents of the stomach to empty faster which allows less time for acid reflux to occur by strengthening the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). It improves the motility (automatic bowel and stomach movements, which are necessary to pass the food through digestive tract) and prevent from the nausea and vomiting.

It is used to treat the symptoms caused by delayed gastric emptying, such as gastric fullness, painful pressure in upper abdomen (epigastrium), loss of appetite, heartburn, nausea and vomiting (not caused by ulcer or organ disease), affecting the movement of food through digestive tract. Always take this medicine as directed by physician. Your doctor will decide the dose and duration of therapy depending upon your age, weight and condition. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water.

GIT 50MG is not recommended for the use in children and adolescents under 18 years. Do not take this medicine, if you are in condition, fasten gastric emptying can be dangerous, such as bleeding from the digestive tract. This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant or breastfeeding women unless necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Tell your doctor, if you are taking or taken or might take any other medicines. The most common side effects include dizziness, sleepiness, diarrhoea and tiredness.

USES OF GIT 50MG

  • Treat gastrointestinal symptoms of functional, non-ulcer dyspepsia (chronic gastritis) such as sensation of bloating, upper abdominal pain or discomfort, anorexia, heartburn, nausea and vomiting

HOW GIT 50MG WORKS

GIT 50MG acts both as a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and as an acetylcholine esterase inhibitor which accelerates gastric emptying, improves gastric tension and sensitivity, and also has an anti-emetic action.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Always take GIT 50MG exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the medicine whole before meals.

SIDE EFFECTS OF GIT 50MG

SERIOUS

  • allergic reactions such as swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, face, lips or throat, which can cause troubles with swallowing or breathing, rash, itching

COMMON

  • headache

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Constipation: 

Take fibre rich foods such as fresh fruit, vegetables and cereals, and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly.

Headache:

Rest and drink plenty of fluids. Apply a cold, wet cloth or ice pack to your forehead. Rest in a quiet, comfortable, dark room.

Diarrhoea:

Drink lot of fluid, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration. Do not take any other medicines without speaking to a doctor.

Stomach pain:

Try to rest and relax. You can eat and drink slowly or have frequent meals. Keeping a heat pad or a covered hot water pack on your stomach may also help. If still pain persists, speak to your doctor.

Consumption of alcohol is not recommended during treatment with this medicine.

LIVER

This medicine should be taken with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Consult your doctor for advice.

ALLERGY
