Introduction About FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET
FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET contains Perampanel which belongs to the group of medicines called Anti-epileptics. It is used as an adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures with or without secondarily generalized seizures in patients with epilepsy aged 12 years and older. It is used in association with other antiepileptic drugs to manage seizures such as partial seizures with or without secondary generalisation in adults, adolescents and children (4 to 11 years of age). It is also used to manage generalized seizures (fits that affect all the brain and cause convulsions or starting spells) in adults, adolescents (12 years and above) and children (7 to 11 years of age).
Seizure is a disorder in which nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed and during seizures person may experience abnormal behaviour, symptoms and sensations including loss of consciousness. FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with serious liver problems, moderate or serious kidney problems or patients allergic to perampanel or if you have ever developed a severe skin rash or skin peeling, blistering or mouth sores after taking perampanel. It should be used with caution in patients having a history of substance abuse.
FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women or women planning for pregnancy and in breastfeeding women. FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children below 4 years of age (for partial seizures) and children below 7 years of age (for generalized seizures). The most common side effects of FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET are dizziness, drowsiness, weight gain, irritable, anxious, or confusion. Talk to your doctor if any of the side effects gets worse over a longer duration.
Uses Of FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET
It is used in combination with other antiepileptics to manage certain types of epilepsy:
- Partial seizures (with or without generalized seizures)
- Generalized seizures
How FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET Works
FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET blocks certain chemicals that regulate a broad spectrum of processes in the brain, spinal cord, retina, and nerves. These chemicals are excessively produced during the sudden disruption of the brain’s normal electrical activity that results in epileptic fits. This inhibitory action enables sufficient control over seizures without substantial impairment of brain function.
How to use FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET
Take FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET
Common
- dizziness
- drowsiness
- increased or decreased appetite
- weight gain
- feeling aggressive, angry, irritable, anxious, or confused
- signs of ataxia, gait disturbance, balance disorder (difficulty with walking or balance)
- dysarthria (slow speech)

- nausea
- back pain
- tiredness
- headache
Rare
- self-harming thoughts
Stop taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- Signs of drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) known as drug hypersensitivity syndrome (widespread skin rash, high body temperature, swelling of lymph nodes and other body organs involvement)
- Signs of Stevens - Johnson syndrome (serious skin rash appearing as reddish target-like circular patches with central blisters on the trunk, skin peeling, ulcers of mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eyes; and flu-like symptoms)
How To Manage Side Effects

Dizziness Or Drowsiness
Sit down or lie down slowly when you are feeling dizziness. Take rest for some time and drink plenty of water. Avoid coffee and other carbonated drinks. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

Headache
Try to relax and rest yourself. Apply pain balm to the head to ease off the pain. Sip on some hot water or ginger tea. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

Nausea And Vomiting
Take this medicine along with, or just after meals. Stick to simple meals and avoid eating oil rich or spicy foods. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

Tiredness
Drink plenty of fluid and eat balanced diet and frequent meals. Do regular minimal exercise and follow regular sleep schedule. If the symptom does not improve, contact your doctor.

Pregnancy
ContraindicatedFYCOMPA 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Women of child-bearing potential should use reliable method of contraception to avoid becoming pregnant while taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET, also continue this for one month after stopping the management. Consult your doctor before taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET.

Breastfeeding
Monitoring requiredFYCOMPA 2MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless considered clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET.

Driving and Using Machines
Use with CautionDo not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or sleepy after taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET. Consult your doctor before taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET.

Alcohol
Consult your doctorAvoid consumption of alcohol while taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET because it might make you dizzier and can also worsen the feelings of anger, confusion, or sadness. Consult your doctor before taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET.

Kidney
ContraindicatedFYCOMPA 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with moderate or serious kidney problems. Consult with your doctor before taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET.

Liver
Consult your doctorFYCOMPA 2MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients with serious liver problems and it should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult with your doctor before taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET.

Allergy
ContraindicatedDo not take FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET if you are allergic to Perampanel or any other ingredients of this medicine.

Use In Pediatrics
Consult your doctorFYCOMPA 2MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in children under 4 years of age for partial seizures and under 7 years of age for generalized seizures due to lack of safety and effectiveness. It should be used with caution in children (4 to 11 years of age) for partial seizures and (7 to 11 years of age) for generalized seizures. Your doctor will adjust the dose based on the body weight. Consult your doctor before taking this FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET.

Use In Geriatrics
Use with CautionFYCOMPA 2MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above). Consult your doctor before taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET.
Others
Before taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have a history of substance abuse
- have psychiatric problems or have had depression, mood problems, aggressive or hostile behaviour or self-harming thoughts
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug interactions:
Before taking FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- Medicines used in the management of epilepsy (Ex. carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, felbamate, midazolam)
- Rifampicin (used in management of bacterial infections)
- St. John’s Wort (herbal medicine used in the management of mild anxiety)
- Ketoconazole (medicine used in management of fungal infections)
- Hormonal contraceptives such as levonorgestrel including implants, injections, and patches
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of FYCOMPA 2MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital. Symptoms of overdose are confusion, agitation, aggressive behaviour, and depressed level of consciousness.
