INTRODUCTION

DYTOR INJECTION contains Torsemide which belongs to the group of medicines called Diuretics. It is indicated for the treatment of oedema associated with congestive heart failure, renal or hepatic disease and essential hypertension.

Oedema is a build-up of fluid in the body which causes the affected tissue to become swollen. The swelling can occur in one particular part of the body or may be more general, depending on the cause.

Prior to the treatment, your doctor may want you to take several blood tests to understand your existing condition.

DYTOR INJECTION is not recommended for use if you have anuria (failure of kidney to produce urine), hepatic coma (loss of brain function due to liver damage).

Before receiving DYTOR INJECTION, inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney, or heart failure. Safety and effectiveness of DYTOR INJECTION in pregnant or breastfeeding women and children has not been established yet, therefore consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

DYTOR INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients above 65 years of age. The most common side effects of receiving DYTOR INJECTION are headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation. Consult your doctor if any of the above side effects worsen.

USES OF DYTOR INJECTION

It is used to treat:

  • oedema associated with congestive heart failure, kidney, or liver disease
  • essential hypertension (high blood pressure)

HOW DYTOR INJECTION WORKS

DYTOR INJECTION inhibits reabsorption of sodium and chloride in kidney by increasing urinary excretion of sodium, chloride, and water.  Thus, removing excessive fluid from the body.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

DYTOR INJECTION will be administered into a vein only by a doctor or a nurse. Your doctor will administer the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF DYTOR INJECTION

COMMON

  • headache
  • nausea, vomiting
  • dizziness
  • constipation
  • upset stomach

RARE

Stop receiving DYTOR INJECTION and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

  • tinnitus (ringing in ears), hearing loss
  • electrolyte and volume depletion (headache, dizziness, low blood pressure, weakness, drowsiness, confusion, loss of appetite, cramps)
  • low blood pressure
  • worsening of kidney function

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Headache:

Avoid bright lights, take rest and drink enough water. Inform your doctor if symptoms do not improve. Apply pain relieving balm if needed.

Nausea or Vomiting:

Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oily or spicy foods. Inform your doctor if symptoms do not improve. Get adequate rest. Drink lots of fluids, especially water.

Dizziness:

Lie down until dizziness is gone, then get up slowly. Move slowly and carefully, do not hurry. Get adequate rest. Drink plenty of water and other fluids. Avoid coffee, cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs. Inform your doctor if symptoms do not improve.

Constipation:

Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. Inform your doctor if symptoms do not improve.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

Safety and effectiveness of DYTOR INJECTION in pregnant women or women planning to get pregnant has not been established yet. Hence it should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

BREASTFEEDING

Safety and effectiveness of DYTOR INJECTION in breastfeeding women has not been established yet as it is not known if the medicine is excreted in the breastmilk. Hence it should be used with caution when administered to a nursing woman. Consult your doctor before receiving DYTOR INJECTION.

DRIVING AND USING MACHINES

Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy after receiving DYTOR INJECTION.

KIDNEY

DYTOR INJECTION is not recommended for use in anuric patients (kidneys fail to produce urine). DYTOR INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with kidney failure, and severe urinary flow disorders. The dose will be adjusted by your doctor. Consult your doctor before receiving DYTOR INJECTION.

LIVER

DYTOR INJECTION is not recommended for patients with hepatic coma or pre-coma. DYTOR INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with liver diseases like cirrhosis and ascites. Consult your doctor before receiving DYTOR INJECTION.

ALLERGY

Do not receive DYTOR INJECTION if you are allergic to Torsemide or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

DYTOR INJECTION should be used with caution in patients with heart failure. Consult your doctor before receiving it.

OTHERS

DYTOR INJECTION is not recommended if you have:

  • low volume of blood (hypovolaemia)
  • low blood pressure (hypotension)

Use in pediatrics:

Safety and effectiveness of DYTOR INJECTION in children has not been established yet. Consult your doctor before receiving the medicine.

Use in geriatrics:

There is no information on dosage adjustments in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before receiving DYTOR INJECTION.

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug-Drug interactions:

Before receiving DYTOR INJECTION, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

  • medicines used to relieve pain, stiffness, and inflammation (Ex. aspirin, ibuprofen, indomethacin)
  • lithium (used to treat mood disorders)
  • medicines used to treat bacterial infections (Ex. streptomycin, gentamycin, rifampin)
  • medicines used to treat heart conditions like increased blood pressure and heart insufficiency (Ex. captopril, enalapril, digoxin)
  • medicines used to treat inflammatory conditions (Ex. prednisolone, hydrocortisone)
  • medicines helps to excrete excess body fluid (Ex. spironolactone, amiloride)
  • cholestyramine (used to treat high cholesterol levels)
  • probenecid (used to treat gout)
  • medicines used to treat fungal infections (Ex. itraconazole, ketoconazole, fluconazole, miconazole)
  • oxandrolone (used to promote weight gain)
  • warfarin (used to treat blood clots)
  • medicines used to treat fits (Ex. phenytoin, ACTH)
  • ethacrynic acid (used to treat fluid retention)

Overdosage:

DYTOR INJECTION will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so you are unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms like dehydration, hypovolemia, low blood pressure, low sodium and potassium levels, hypochloremic alkalosis, and hemoconcentration.
