What is Diltiazem used for?
Diltiazem is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), angina (chest pain), and certain heart rhythm disorders. It belongs to a group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. Diltiazem relaxes blood vessels in the body and heart, thereby improving the blood flow. By decreasing the heart rate, this medication helps lower the blood pressure. This medicine may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How to take Diltiazem?
The dosage of Diltiazem prescribed to each patient will vary. Always follow your physician’s instructions and/or the directions on the prescription drug label.
If your physician has instructed or directed you to take Diltiazem medication in a regular schedule and you have missed a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, then skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the doses unless otherwise directed.
