Introduction About BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET contains Bupropion which belongs to a group of medicines called Antidepressants. BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET is used to manage major depressive disorder (persistent depresstion) and manage seasonal affective disorder (depression that occurs due to seasonal changes) in affected individuals.
Before taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are diabetic, have/ever had head injury, seizures, depression, suicidal thoughts, tumor in brain/spine, high blood pressure, heart, kidney, and/or heart problems.
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. It is also used advised to be used with caution in breast-feeding women only if it is necessary since the medicine may pass through breast milk.
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) unless it is clearly considered necessary. The medicine is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above) after consulting the doctor.
The most common side effects of taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET are weight loss, dry mouth, skin rash, nausea, stomach pain, anxiety, and/or dizziness. Contact your doctor if any of the symptoms worsens.

How BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET Works
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET works by managing the reuptake of three neurotransmitters, dopamine (responsible for pleasure), serotonin (responsible for cognitive functions such as memory, learning), and norepinephrine (responsible for fight/flight response during stress) in the brain which helps in managing the occurrence of depression by decreasing the level of three neurotransmitters in the brain (which are usually needed to cause depression) thus managing major depressive disorder and managing seasonal affective disorder in affected individuals.
How to use BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET
Take BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.
Side Effects Of BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET
Common
- loss of appetite, weight loss
- dry mouth, sore throat, stomach pain, nausea, constipation, flatulence
- skin rash, sweating
- ringing in the ears, trouble sleeping
- shakiness
- agitation, anxiety, dizziness

Rare
Stop taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:
- seizures
- high blood pressure
- signs of severe allergic reactions such as rash, itching, hives, fever, swollen lymph glands, painful sores in the mouth or around the eyes, swelling of the lips or tongue, chest pain, and/or troubled breathing
- trouble sleeping
- agitation, depressed mood, changes in behavior/thinking, suicidal thoughts (in smokers who are under smoking cessation therapy)
- acting aggressive, angry/violent
- unusual thoughts /behavior such as delusions (believe you are someone else), hallucinations, paranoia (feeling that people are against you), and/or feeling confused
- suicidal thoughts
How To Manage Side Effects
Dry mouth:
Try to drink plenty of cold water and sip on cold unsweetened drinks and use lip balm if your lips are dry. Brush your teeth twice a day and use mouthwash. Consult your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Nausea:
Take BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET with or just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil-rich or spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, drink slowly in between meals. Inform your doctor if the condition worsens.
Constipation:
Try to eat high-fibre foods such as vegetables, cereals, fresh fruit, and drink plenty of water. Involve in regular exercise (going for a daily walk or run) and if this does not help, consult and inform your doctor for receiving alternate managements for constipation.

Pregnancy
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET should be used with caution during pregnancy and in women planning for pregnancy only if it is clearly necessary. Consult your doctor before taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET

Breastfeeding
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in breastfeeding women only if it is clearly necessary as the medicine may pass through breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET.

Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive/operate machines if your ability to drive/operate machines is impaired after taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET.

Alcohol
Avoid consumption of alcohol while taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET since it may alter the effect of the medicine.

Kidney
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems such as renal impairment. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Liver
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET should be used with extreme caution in patients with liver problems such as severe hepatic cirrhosis, mild to moderate hepatic impairment. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Allergy
Do not take BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET if you are allergic to Bupropion, and/or any other ingredients in this medicine.

Heart Disease
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart problems such as heart attack, unstable heart disease, left ventricular dysfunction. Consult your doctor before taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET.
Others
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- have/had a seizure disorder/epilepsy
- have/ had an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa (an eating disorder that causes people to get obsessed about weight on what they eat)/bulimia (an eating disorder in which you consume a large quantity of food in one sitting).
Before taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- are a diabetic
- have ever had depression/other mental health problems, suicidal thoughts
- have had a head injury
- have a tumor in brain/spinal cord
- have high blood pressure
Use in Pediatrics:
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) unless it is clearly considered necessary. Your doctor might monitor the effects of the drug for any possible side effects, especially on suicidality, and unusual changes in behaviour during the initial few months of the course of> management. Consult your doctor before administering the medicine to the child.
Use in Geriatrics:
BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years/above). Consult your doctor before taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET.
Interactions
A. Drug-Drug Interactions:
Before taking BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- zyban (medicine used to help people stop smoking)
- monoamine oxidase inhibitor (medicine used for depression) Ex. phenelzine sulfate, tranylcypromine sulfate, isocarboxazid
- insulin/other medicines to control your blood sugar (Ex.glimepiride,gliclazide, glipizide)
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of BUPRON XL 150MG TABLET, contact your doctor immediately or go to a hospital straight away. Symptoms of overdose are seizure, hallucinations, loss of consciousness, sinus tachycardia (fast heartbeat), arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat), fever, muscle rigidity, rhabdomyolysis (muscle death), low blood pressure, stupor (unconsciousness), coma, and respiratory failure.
