    Introduction About BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP

    BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP contains Ammonium Chloride, Diphenhydramine, Ethanol and Sodium Citrate which belongs to the group of medicines called Expectorant, Antihistamine and Mucolytics respectively. It is used for the symptomatic relief of cough accompanied by runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, watery eyes etc.

    BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with emphysema (a lung disease causing shortness of breath), chronic bronchitis (inflammation of airways of lungs), bronchial asthma, high blood pressure and heart diseases. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP should be used during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. It is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP is not recommended for use in children below 4 years of age. It should be used with caution in elderly patients. The most common side effects of taking BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP is drowsiness. Consult your doctor if you experience any side effects.

    How BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP Works

    BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP helps to manage cough, where Ammonium chloride is an expectorant works by decreasing the stickiness of airway secretions and helps in their removal from the airways. Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine blocks the binding of histamine (responsible for allergic reactions such as sneezing, watery and itchy eyes and runny nose) to Histamine H1receptors, thus managing allergic reactions. Sodium Citrate is a mucolytic, thins and loosen phlegm in the nose, trachea and lung, facilitating its removal by coughing.

    Take BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Your physician will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Before taking BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP inform your doctor if you have:

    • glaucoma (increased eye pressure)
    • prostate hyperplasia (enlargement of prostate gland) with urinary retention
    • peptic ulcer (sores on the lining of the stomach and intestine)
    • pyloroduodenal obstruction (obstruction of outlet of stomach)
    • hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland)

    Use in paediatrics:

    BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP is not recommended for use in children below 4 years of age. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    It should be used with caution in children aged between 6 to 12 years and adults. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Use in geriatric:

    BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP should be used with caution in elderly patients aged 60 years and above due to increased risk of dizziness, sedation and low blood pressure. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before taking BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:

    • monoamine oxidase A inhibitors (medicines used to manage depression) (Ex. Phenelzine, isocarboxazid, selegiline, tranylcypromine)
    • hypnotics, sedatives (medicines used to manage anxiety, panic disorders and fits) (Ex. diazepam, lorazepam, phenobarbitone)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally use too much of BENADRYL COUGH FORMULA SYRUP, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
