Cefixime is used to treat bacterial infections in children (aged between 6 months or older). It can also be used in the treatment of typhoid fever.
Cefixime: Antibiotics
Cefixime is a powerful antibiotic with bacteriostatic properties. It works by killing the susceptible bacteria by blocking the bacterial cell wall synthesis. Unlike other cephalosporins, it can also remain unaffected by the toxic proteins produced by the bacteria (such as beta lactamases). Collectively, these actions destroy the susceptible bacteria, prevent their further growth and multiplication and reduce the severity of the infection.
