Introduction About PUNOX 600MG TABLET
PUNOX 600MG TABLET contains Prulifloxacin which belongs to the group of medicines called Fluoroquinolones. PUNOX 600MG TABLET is used manage infections caused by susceptible bacteria which includes lower urinary tract infections with/without association with other urinary medical problems, sudden worsening of chronic bronchitis and/or acute bronchial rhinosinusitis (inflammation of nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses) in affected individuals.
PUNOX 600MG TABLET is also used to manage bacterial rhinosinusitis when usual antibiotics becomes infective/contraindicated to manage the disease.
PUNOX 600MG TABLET is not recommended for use in patients allergic (hypersensitive) to prulifloxacin, and/or other fluoroquinolones. It is also not recommended for use in patients suffering from tendonitis (inflamed tendons), and/or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (a genetic disorder that affects red blood cells).
Before taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have epilepsy/medical condition that may cause convulsions, lactose (type of sugar found in milk) intolerance, myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness), Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, heart problems (such as abnormal heart rhythm, QT interval prolongation, aortic aneurysm, tear in aorta wall), kidney, and/or liver problems.
PUNOX 600MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant and breast-feeding women. It is also not recommended for use in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years) and is advised to be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 60 years/above) after consulting the doctor.
The most common side effect associated with the use of PUNOX 600MG TABLET is stomach pain. Consult your doctor if the symptom worsens.
Uses Of PUNOX 600MG TABLET
- Manage susceptible bacterial infections which include lower urinary tract infections (with/without association with other urinary medical problems), sudden worsening of chronic bronchitis, and/or acute bronchial rhinosinusitis in affected individuals
- Manage bacterial rhinosinusitis when usual antibiotics becomes infective/contraindicated to manage the disease
How PUNOX 600MG TABLET Works
PUNOX 600MG TABLET works by inhibiting DNA gyrase (enzyme responsible for DNA synthesis) in susceptible bacteria which results in destruction of bacterial cell structure thus managing the occurrence of bacterial infection in affected individuals.
How to use PUNOX 600MG TABLET
Take PUNOX 600MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, disease condition, and body weight.
Side Effects Of PUNOX 600MG TABLET

Stop taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:
- sudden, severe pain in abdomen/chest/back
- severe/persistent watery diarrhoea (noticed with blood/mucus in stools)
- muscle pain/weakness, dark urine, tiny crystals in urine
- signs of neuropathy such as pain, burning, tingling, numbness, and/or weakness (especially in arms/legs)
- disabling/potentially irreversible conditions that includes tendon, muscle/joint pain of upper and lower limbs, difficulty in walking, abnormal sensations (such as burning/prickling sensation), sensory disorders (such as impairment of hearing, vision, taste/smell), depression, memory impairment, severe fatigue, and/or severe sleep disorders
- severe reaction to the sun such as burning/peeling sensation
- impaired eyesight
- sudden wheeziness, breathing difficulties, swelling of the eyelids, face/lips, rash/itching
- Stevens Johnson syndrome (rare/serious disorder of skin and mucous membrane) associated with signs such as severe skin rash, blistering of skin involving mouth and tongue
- signs of tendon inflammation such as swelling/pain in the affected limb
- signs of low blood sugar such as feeling shaky/irritable
- signs of dermatitis (inflammation of skin) such as skin reddening and flaking
How To Manage Side Effects
Nausea and vomiting:
Take PUNOX 600MG TABLET with/just after a meal. Stick to simple meals. Avoid eating oil rich/spicy foods, sugary snacks and drinks. Avoid drinking too much liquid along with your meals, and drink slowly in between meals. Consult your doctor if the condition worsens.
Diarrhoea:
Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Try to avoid taking any medicine on your own to manage diarrhea. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.
Headache:
If PUNOX 600MG TABLET causes headache, then take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Try to avoid drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should usually go away after the first week of taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET. If it lasts more than a week/becomes severe, then consult and inform your doctor.
Dizziness:
Try to rest and get enough sleep. Try to avoid driving or operating any tools or machines while you feel dizzy. Limit consumption of alcohol, as it can aggravate dizziness. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom worsens.
Itchy Skin:
Try to pat or tap your skin instead of scratching it. Hold a damp towel to cool your skin. Wear loose clothing and avoid tight clothes, or clothes made from wool or synthetic fabrics. Avoid using perfumed soaps, deodorants or moisturizers and use a skin softener regularly.
Rashes:
Do not scratch the affected area. Wear protective clothing while going outdoors. Regularly moisturize your skin. Consult and inform your doctor if the symptom gets worse.
Indigestion:
Try to have smaller and more frequent meals and drink slowly. Reduce consumption of coffee, cola, tea, or alcohol and lose weight if you are obese. Try to avoid smoking and don’t have rich, fatty or spicy foods. Consult your doctor and inform if the symptom does not improve.

Pregnancy
PUNOX 600MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Breastfeeding
PUNOX 600MG TABLET is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking the medicine.
Driving and Using Machines
Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or confused after taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET.
Kidney
PUNOX 600MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with kidney problems. Consult your doctor before taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET.
Liver
PUNOX 600MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with liver problems. Consult your doctor before taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET.
Allergy
Do not take PUNOX 600MG TABLET if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to prulifloxacin, other fluoroquinolones, and/or any other ingredients of this medicines.
Heart Disease
PUNOX 600MG TABLET should be used with caution in patients with heart problems such as abnormal heart rhythm, QT interval prolongation, aortic aneurysm, tear in aorta wall. Consult your doctor before taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET.
Others
PUNOX 600MG TABLET is not recommended for use if you:
- suffer from tendonitis (inflamed tendons)
- have glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (genetic disorder of red blood cells)
Before taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:
- have epilepsy/medical condition that may cause convulsions (fits)
- have lactose (sugar found in milk) intolerance
- have myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness)
- have Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency
- have a family history of connective tissue disorders (such as Marfan syndrome, vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome), vascular disorders (such as Takayasu arteritis, giant cell arteritis, Behcet's disease, high blood pressure, atherosclerosis)
Use in Paediatrics:
PUNOX 600MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children (aged below 18 years). Consult your doctor before taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET.
Use in Geriatrics:
PUNOX 600MG TABLET should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 60 years/above). Consult your doctor before taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET.
Interactions
A. Drug–Drug Interactions:
Before taking PUNOX 600MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicine:
- medicines used in the management of indigestion, heartburn or stomach ulcers (Ex. cimetidine)
- medicines containing calcium/iron
- medicines used in the management of diabetes (Ex. sitagliptin, metformin)
- medicines to control your heartbeat (Ex. amiodarone, quinidine, procainamide)
- other antibiotics (medicines used to manage bacterial infections) Ex. erythromycin, clarithromycin, azithromycin
- medicines used in the management of depression (Ex. amitriptyline, clomipramine, imipramine)
- medicines used to reduce uric acid in the blood (Ex. probenecid)
- medicines used for pain relief in arthritis (Ex fenbufen)
- medicines used for asthma or breathing difficulties (Ex. theophylline)
- medicines used to manage blood clotting (Ex. warfarin)
- medicines used to manage angina (chest pains) or high blood pressure (Ex. nicardipine)
- steroids for allergic conditions or inflammation (Ex. prednisolone)
B.Drug–Food Interactions:
PUNOX 600MG TABLET should not be taken with milk/milk products.
Overdosage:
If you or anyone else accidentally take too much of PUNOX 600MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital to manage overdose symptoms.
