    Introduction About OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION

    OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION is used to manage peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or reflux esophagitis and its associated symptoms such as acidity, heartburn, acid reflux and pain in swallowing. It contains Pantoprazole which belongs to the group of medicines called Proton pump inhibitors.  

    During management with OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION your doctor will closely monitor your kidney functions, liver functions and blood magnesium levels to avoid the risk of unwanted side effects. Before receiving OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION inform your doctor if you have any liver, kidney or heart problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have weak bones or any previous history of bleeding in the gut.

    Consult your doctor before receiving OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. The most common side effects of receiving OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION is pain and inflammation at the site of injection. You must also inform your doctor immediately if you experience severe tiredness with abnormal muscle movements, dizziness, confusion, disorientation and irregular heartbeat after receiving OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION, as it could be a sign of low magnesium levels in blood.

    Uses Of OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION

    It is used to manage:

    • Peptic ulcer
    • Gastrointestinal Reflux disease (GERD)
    • Reflux esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus)
    • Acidity, Heartburn, Pain in swallowing
    • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (tumors in pancreas causing the stomach to secrete more acid)

    How OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION Works

    OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION reduces gastric acid secretion by the blocking the actions of a protein membrane called H+K+Atpase (proton pump) across the stomach lining. As a result, it manages the worsening of ulcers, heals the existing ulcers and esophageal lesions and provides relief from the unpleasant symptoms of GI tract (such as acidity, heartburn and acid reflux).

    How to use OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION

    • It will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein (intravenously)
    • Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of therapy for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition

    Side Effects Of OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION

    Common side effects of OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION:

    • benign polyps in the stomach
    • injection site reactions (pain and inflammation)
    • nausea or vomiting
    • diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, flatulence
    • dry mouth

    Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects after receiving OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION:

    • severe allergic reactions (skin rash, itching, swelling of the lips, face or body and difficulty in breathing or swallowing)
    • signs of liver problems (yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark urine and tiredness)
    • severe skin reactions (redness, blistering, peeling of skin and bleeding in the lips, eyes, mouth, nose and genitals with fever)
    • signs of kidney problem (lower back pain, painful urination)
    • signs of low magnesium levels in blood (tiredness, abnormal muscle movements, dizziness, confusion, disorientation, irregular heartbeat)
    • uncontrollable body movements (including eye and tongue), twisted neck and abnormal body posture

    Allergy

    OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION should be used with caution in elderly patients (aged 65 years and above).

    Others

    Before receiving OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION, inform your doctor if you:

    • have osteoporosis
    • have a history of bleeding in the gut
    • have vitamin B12 deficiency (sore tongue, mouth ulcers, pale skin, depression)
    • are going to test Chromogranin A level

    A. Drug-Drug interactions:

    Before receiving OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION inform your doctor if you are receiving any of the following medicines such as:

    • Antifungal (Ex. ketoconazole, itraconazole and Posaconazole)
    • Anti-cancer agents (Ex. Erlotinib)
    • Anticoagulants (Ex. Warfarin and phenprocoumon)
    • Antimetabolites (Ex. methotrexate)
    • Anti-viral agents (Ex. atazanavir)
    • Antidepressants (Ex. fluvoxamine)
    • Antibiotics (Ex. rifampicin)
    • Herbal medicine (Ex. St. John’s wort)

    Overdosage:

    OLGERD 40 IV INJECTION will be administered only by a doctor or a nurse in a hospital, and so it is unlikely to receive an overdose. However, consult your doctor or nurse if you experience any unusual symptoms.
