    Introduction About FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP contains Fluconazole that belong to the group of medicines called Antifungal agents. It is used in adults and children for the management fungal infections including candidiasis, mucosal thrush (infection affecting the lining of the mouth, throat and denture sore mouth), genital thrush (infection of the vagina or penis), cryptococcal meningitis (fungal infection in the brain) and dermatomycosis (fungal infections affecting the skin).

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP is also used to manage cryptococcal meningitis from relapsing (in AIDS patients) and fungal infection in patients with weak immune system.

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in patients with heart diseases, having changes in sodium, calcium or magnesium levels your blood or taking a specific medication used for digestive problems (cisapride), allergies (astemizole, terfenadine), schizophrenia (pimozide) and irregular heartbeats (quinidine).

    Before taking FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor if you are liver disease, kidney disease, adrenal insufficiency, severe skin reactions or intolerance to sugars. FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary and should not be taken during breastfeeding. Ask for your doctor’s advice before taking.

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in children and adolescents for genital infections. It can be used for other fungal infections in children and adolescents. FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in elderly patients. Consult your doctor before taking.

    The common side effects associated with the use of FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP are headache, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsens or doesn’t improve.

    Uses Of FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP

    Manages fungal infections such as:

    • candidiasis

    Prevents:

    • cryptococcal meningitis from relapsing (in AIDS patients)
    • fungal infection in patients with weak immune system

    How FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP Works

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP helps in manage fungal infection where Fluconazole inhibits the synthesis of certain compounds (ergosterol) that are essential components of the fungal cell membrane, resulting into increased cellular permeability that causes leaking of cellular contents. Moreover, it also impairs various important biological processes inside the fungal cell body required for its survival, thereby killing the fungal cell bodies.

    How to use FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP

    Take FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP as advised by your physician. Reconstitute the powder in water before consuming. Turn the bottle upside down and gently tap it until the powder starts moving freely. Reconstitute the powder in 23ml of water and shake vigorously to obtain a whitish suspension. Shake again before use. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP

    Common

    • headache
    • stomach discomfort
    • diarrhoea
    • nausea
    • vomiting
    • changes in blood test of liver function characterised by stomach pain, pale stools, dark urine, nausea, tiredness

    Uncommon

    • signs of reduction in red blood cells (anaemia) such as skin paleness, weakness or breathlessness
    • decreased appetite
    • inability to sleep
    • drowsiness
    • fits
    • dizziness
    • sensation of spinning
    • tingling, pricking or numbness
    • changes in sense of taste
    • shaking/tremors
    • constipation, indigestion, wind
    • dry mouth
    • muscle pain
    • wheals, blistering (hives), itching
    • increased sweating
    • tiredness
    • general feeling of being unwell
    • fever
    • changes in kidney function test (swelling, changes in urination)

    Rare

    • signs of decrease in white blood cells such as inability of body to fight against infections
    • signs of decrease in blood cells such as inability of body to stop bleeding
    • signs of low blood platelet count such as red or purple discoloration of the skin
    • raised blood cholesterol and fat levels
    • low blood potassium levels
    • abnormal electrocardiogram (ecg) (change in heart rate or rhythm)
    • liver failure

    Stop taking FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP and contact your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • sudden wheezing, difficulty in breathing, chest tightness
    • swelling of eyelids, face or lips
    • itching and reddening of the skin all over the body
    • itchy red spots
    • skin rash
    • signs of severe skin reactions, such as a rash that causes blistering which may involve mouth and tongue
    • signs of liver problems such as tiredness, loss of appetite, vomiting and yellowing of skin & whites of eyes (jaundice)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Diarrhoea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. Ask for your doctor’s advice if diarrhoea doesn’t improve.

    Nausea:

    Take this medicine with or after meals. Stick to simple meals while taking this medicine. Avoid eating rich or spicy food. Do not take any medication on your own. Ask for your doctor’s advice if nausea doesn’t improve.

    Headache:

    Try to take rest and don’t involve yourself in exertive activities. Rest in a quiet and dark room. Apply a pain-relieving balm on your forehead. Ask for your doctor’s advice if headache doesn’t improve

    Vomiting:

    Drink clear or ice-cold drinks. Eat light, bland foods and avoid fried, oily or sweet foods. Avoid carbonated drinks. Ask for your doctor’s advice if vomiting doesn’t improve.

    Dizziness:

    Lie or sit down immediately when you feel dizzy. If you're feeling severe episode of spinning(vertigo), lie in a dark and quite place with eyes closed. Try to avoid vehicle driving. Discuss with your doctor if the symptom worsens.

    Flatulence:

    Eat smaller and frequent meals. Eat and drink slow and exercise regularly. If it does not improve, contact your doctor.

    Constipation:

    Eat plenty of fiber rich foods such as vegetables, fresh fruits and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. Ask for your doctor’s advice if constipation doesn’t improve

    Dry mouth:

    Dry mouth can be managed by chewing sugar-free gum or sucking on sugar-free hard candies to stimulate the flow of saliva. Sip water at regular intervals of time. Do not use mouthwashes that contain alcohol because they can be drying. Consult your physician for advice.

    Drowsiness:

    Take adequate sleep. Do not involve in rigorous activities. Do not interfere with your sleep cycle. Talk to your doctor if the drowsiness doesn’t improve.

    Muscle pain:

    Give your body a rest. Do not overexert or over stretch yourself. Do stress relieving activities such as yoga or meditation. If the symptom doesn’t improve, ask for your doctor’s advice.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless considered clearly necessary by the doctor. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Breastfeeding

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate machines if you feel dizzy or experience fits after taking FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP.

    Kidney

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease. You doctor might consider lowering your dose depending on your kidney function. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Liver

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in patients with liver disease. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Allergy

    Do not take FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP if you are allergic to Fluconazole, related compounds and/or any other ingredients of this medicine. Consult your doctor before taking.

    Heart Disease

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in patients with heart disease, conditions that affects your heart beats, irregular heartbeat or slow heartbeat. Consult your doctor before taking FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP.

    Others

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use if you:

    • experience changes in sodium, calcium or magnesium levels your blood

    Before taking FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor if you:

    • have signs of adrenal insufficiency such as long-lasting fatigue, muscle weakness, loss of appetite, weight loss and abdominal pain
    • have signs of severe skin reactions such as itching, reddening of the skin or difficulty in breathing
    • have an intolerance to sugars

    Use in Paediatrics:

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP is not recommended for use in children and adolescents for genital infections. It can be used for other fungal infections in children and adolescents. Consult with your child’s doctor before giving FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP to your child.

    Use in Geriatrics:

    FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP should be used with caution in elderly patients (above 65 years). Your doctor might consider lowering your dosage depending on your kidney and liver function. Consult your doctor before taking FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP.

    Before taking FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP, inform your doctor, if you are taking any of the following medicine:

Reconstitute the powder in 23ml of water and shake vigorously to obtain a whitish suspension. Shake again before use. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration of FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition. The suspension, once reconstituted, can be maintained at room temperature for a maximum period of 14 days, after which it must be disposed of.

    What if I forget to take FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP dose?

    If you forget to take FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP dose, take it as early as possible unless it is nearly time for the next dose. If you skip the missed dose, then take the next dose as per schedule. Avoid doubling up the dose. Consult your doctor before taking FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP.

    Can I stop taking FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP if I start to feel better?

    Do not stop taking FORCAN 50 DRY SYRUP without thoroughly discussing with your doctor until the management course is completed, even if you start feeling better. This is because if some fungi may survive due to incomplete medication, they may relapse the infection.
