    Introduction About FACID 20MG TABLET

    FACID 20MG TABLET contains Famotidine which belongs to the group of medicines called H2 receptor antagonists. It is used in management of stomach ulcers (gastric/duodenal ulcers), reflux esophagitis (irritation and inflammation caused by stomach acid leaking up into the oesophagus) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (recurrent tumours and ulcers in stomach and intestines).

    Along with FACID 20MG TABLET, your doctor might ask you to take enough rest and drink plenty of fluids. Consuming simple foods and avoiding oily and spicy foods might be beneficial as well. Before starting the management with FACID 20MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you have a kidney disease, tumour in your stomach or are intolerant to certain sugars.

    FACID 20MG TABLET should not be used in pregnant and breast-feeding women unless considered necessary by your doctor, therefore contact your doctor. FACID 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children. The most common side effects of using FACID 20MG TABLET are headache, dizziness, constipation and diarrhoea. Inform your doctor if any of the above side effects worsen.

    Uses Of FACID 20MG TABLET

    Used to manage:

    • stomach ulcers (gastric or duodenal ulcers)
    • reflux oesophagitis
    • zollinger−ellison syndrome (recurrent ulcers and tumours in the stomach and intestines)

    How FACID 20MG TABLET Works

    FACID 20MG TABLET effectively heals stomach ulcers by blocking certain receptors called Histamine (H2) receptors which are present in the stomach walls which in turn reduces the production of gastric acid and decreases the volume of gastric secretion in the stomach.

    How to use FACID 20MG TABLET

    Take FACID 20MG TABLET as advised by your physician. Swallow the medicine with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the medicine. Your doctor will decide the correct dose and duration for you depending upon your age, body weight and disease condition.

    Side Effects Of FACID 20MG TABLET

    Common

    • headache
    • dizziness
    • constipation
    • diarrhoea

    Uncommon

    • nausea, vomiting
    • abdominal pain
    • feeling bloated (flatulence)
    • tiredness
    • dry mouth
    • loss of appetite (anorexia)
    • taste disorder
    • severe itching (pruritus)
    • rash
    • skin rashes involving formation of wheals

    Rare

    Stop taking FACID 20MG TABLET and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects:

    • allergic reactions involving swelling of the face throat or tongue, difficulty in breathing, dizziness (anaphylaxis)
    • wheezing, shortness of breath or dry cough because of inflammation of the lungs
    • severe blistering of the skin, eyes, mouth and genitals (Stevens Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
    • swelling in the deeper layers of the skin caused by a fluid build-up (angioneurotic oedema)

    How To Manage Side Effects

    Dizziness:

    When you start taking FACID 20MG TABLET, you may feel faint or dizzy. This is caused by your blood pressure dropping. If this happens, resting or lying down for some time can help. Consult your doctor if symptoms don't improve. 

    Headache:

    Avoid bright lights, drink enough water and take a rest. Consult your doctor if symptoms don't improve. 

    Constipation:

    Eat plenty of fiber-rich foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables and cereals and drink plenty of water. Exercise more regularly. Consult your doctor if symptoms don't improve. 

    Diarrhea:

    Drink lots of fluids, such as water or fruit juice to keep yourself hydrated. Do not consume any medicine on your own without consulting your doctor. Consult your doctor if symptoms don't improve.

    Warning & Precautions

    Pregnancy

    FACID 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in pregnant women or women planning to have a baby unless your doctor thinks the benefits outweigh the risks. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Breastfeeding

    FACID 20MG TABLET is generally not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it may pass through the breast milk. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Driving and Using Machines

    Do not drive or operate any machines if you feel dizzy or have a headache after taking FACID 20MG TABLET.

    Kidney

    FACID 20MG TABLET should be taken with caution in patients with kidney disease. The dose will be adjusted by your doctor. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Allergy

    Do not take FACID 20MG TABLET if you are allergic to Famotidine or any other ingredients of this medicine.

    Others

    Before taking FACID 20MG TABLET, inform your doctor if you:

    • have a tumor (malignant) in your stomach
    • have lactose intolerance

    Use in pediatrics:

    FACID 20MG TABLET is not recommended for use in children. Consult your doctor before taking it.

    Interactions

    A. Drug – Drug Interactions:

    • medicines used to manage fungal infections (Ex. ketoconazole, itraconazole)
    • medicines used to manage gout (Ex. probenecid)
    • antacids like aluminium hydroxide, calcium carbonate (medicines used to manage indigestion)
    • medicines used to manage the recurrence of ulcers (Ex. sucralfate)
    • medicines used for high blood phosphate levels in patients on dialysis (Ex. calcium carbonate)
    • medicines used for management of HIV infection (Ex. atazanavir)

    Overdosage:

    If you or anyone else accidentally takes too much of FACID 20MG TABLET, consult your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
