Introduction About BIBONATE INJECTION
BIBONATE Injection is an alkalinizing agent used to correct metabolic acidosis (increased acidity of blood and urine). It can also be indicated in the management of poisoning of barbiturates, salicylates or methyl alcohol and haemolytic reactions requiring alkalinization of the urine and as a replacement therapy for patients suffering from severe diarrhoea.
It contains sodium bicarbonate as the active ingredient which is a base (alkaline) compound. Following administration, sodium bicarbonate restores the pH of blood and urine to the normal levels and reverses the clinical manifestations of metabolic acidosis.
BIBONATE Injection should be used under careful medical supervision. It will be administered to you only by a doctor or a nurse into the vein as an intravenous infusion.
Before taking BIBONATE Injection, inform your doctor if you have breathing problems, heart problems, kidney problems, liver problems, high blood pressure, high blood sodium levels or swollen foot or ankles. You must also inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as a precaution.
BIBONATE Injection is not recommended for use in patients who are suffering from excessive vomiting or hypocalcemia (low blood calcium levels) or if you are undergoing continuous gastrointestinal suction.
The most common side effects of receiving BIBONATE Injection are nausea, vomiting, headache, muscle pain, constipation, dry mouth, increased thirst, skin ulcerations, tiredness and edema. Consult your doctor if any of these side effect troubles you.
