INTRODUCTION

ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION contains Azithromycin which belongs to the group of medicines called Macrolides. It is used in children to treat infections caused by bacteria and other micro-organisms which include chest, throat, and nasal infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, sore throat and sinusitis.

It is also used to treat ear infections (such as acute otitis media) and skin & soft tissue infections (such as an abscess or boil) in affected children which is also indicated for use to treat sexually transmitted diseases (caused by organisms such as chlamydia trachomatis/ Neisseria gonorrhoea) in the affected child.

ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in children allergic to azithromycin, other antibiotics such as erythromycin/clarithromycin (macrolides), and/or ketolides.

Before administering ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION, inform your doctor if the child has diabetes, myasthenia gravis (a condition marked by weak muscles), heart problems, liver problems (such as an impaired hepatic function), and/or kidney problems (such as impaired renal function).

ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women since it is used only in children and adolescents (aged below 18 years). It is also not recommended for use in elderly patients.

The most common side effects of administering ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION in children are stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhoea, flatulence, dizziness, headache, skin rash, or itching. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms become worse in the child.

USES OF ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION

Used in paediatric patients:

  • To treat infections caused by bacteria and other micro-organisms which include chest, throat, and nasal infections
  • To treat ear infections such as acute otitis media and skin & soft tissue infections such as abscesses or boil
  • To treat sexually transmitted diseases caused by organisms such as chlamydia trachomatis/ Neisseria gonorrhoea

HOW ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION WORKS

ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis (essential for the bacteria to grow) that results in its destruction thus preventing its growth and spread of infection in affected individuals.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Administer ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION in the child as advised by your physician. Shake well before use. Your doctor will decide the exact dose and duration of treatment for your child depending on the child’s age, body weight and disease condition.

SIDE EFFECTS OF ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION

COMMON

  • stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhoea, flatulence
  • dizziness, headache
  • numbness/pickling sensation
  • loss of appetite, taste disturbance
  • visual disturbances, deafness
  • skin rash, itching
  • joint pain
  • tiredness, weakness

UNCOMMON

  • yeast infections of the mouth and vagina
  • allergic reactions of varying severity
  • increased skin sensitivity to sunlight
  • feeling nervous
  • reduced sense of touch or sensations
  • sleepiness/sleeplessness
  • poor hearing/ringing in the ears
  • racing heartbeat, chest pain
  • constipation, fever
  • signs of inflammation of the liver such as jaundice (yellowing of skin and whites of eyes), loss of appetite, dark urine
  • general loss of strength
  • swelling
  • general discomfort

RARE

  • vertigo (spinning head)
  • agitation

Stop administering ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION and consult your doctor immediately in case the child experiences:

  • sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of eyelids, face/lips, rash, and/or itching (affecting the whole body)
  • signs of serious bowel inflammation such as severe/prolonged diarrhoea
  • severe skin rash causing redness and flaking of the skin
  • rapid/irregular heartbeat
  • low blood pressure
  • angioedema (swelling underneath the skin)
  • signs of cholestatic jaundice such as yellowing of skin and whites of eyes, dark urine
  • dizziness, faint/ suffer from muscle weakness
  • serious skin reaction such as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (associated with signs such as blistering of the skin, mouth, eyes and genitals), Toxic epidermal necrosis (associated with signs such as blistering of the skin), Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (such as small, itchy red bumps)
  • Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis skin (associated with signs such as skin eruption with rapid appearance of red skin studded with small pustules)

HOW TO MANAGE SIDE EFFECTS

Nausea/vomiting:

Have the child take this medicine with or after a meal or a snack. Let the child stick to simple meals and avoid having rich or spicy food.

Constipation:

Ask the child to drink an adequate amount of water and include plenty of fruits and vegetables in the child’s diet. Constipation should go away after a few days followed by its administration in the child. If it persists for a longer time or becomes severe then consult your doctor.

Headache:

Ask the child to take rest and drink plenty of fluids. Headaches usually go away after the first week of administration of ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION. If it lasts more than a week or becomes severe, inform your doctor.

Diarrhoea:

Ask the child to drink lots of fluids such as water or fruit juices so that the child is sufficiently hydrated. Do not administer any medicine to treat the condition. Consult your doctor if the symptom does not improve or becomes worse.

WARNING & PRECAUTIONS

PREGNANCY

ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in pregnant women as it is used only in children.

BREASTFEEDING

ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women as it is used only in children.

KIDNEY

ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION should be administered with caution in children with kidney problems such as impaired renal function. Consult your doctor before administering the medicine to the child.

LIVER

ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION should be administered with caution in children with liver problems such as impaired hepatic function. Consult your doctor before administering the medicine to the child.

ALLERGY

Do not administer ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION if the child is allergic to azithromycin, other antibiotics such as erythromycin/clarithromycin (macrolides), ketolides, and/or any other ingredients of this medicine.

HEART DISEASE

ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION should be administered with caution in children with heart problems. Consult your doctor before administering the medicine to the child.

OTHERS

Before taking ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION inform your doctor if the child has:

  • diabetes
  • myasthenia gravis (a condition marked by weak muscles)
  • intolerance to certain sugars

INTERACTIONS

A. Drug – drug interactions:

Before taking ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION inform your doctor if you are taking the following medicines:

  • medicines used to treat migraine (Ex. ergotamine)
  • medicines used to prevent blood clots (Ex. warfarin)
  • ciclosporin (used to prevent transplanted organ rejection)
  • antacids (used to treat indigestion) Ex. aluminum hydroxide, magnesium carbonate
  • digoxin (used to treat heart failure)
  • colchicine (used for gout and familial Mediterranean fever)
  • terfenadine (used for skin allergy)
  • hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine (medicines used to treat malaria)

Overdosage:

If the child or anyone else accidentally take too much of ZORO PAEDIATRIC 200MG SUSPENSION, Consult and inform your doctor immediately or visit the nearby hospital.
