INTRODUCTION

ZOLADEX LA 10.8MG contains Goserelin which belongs to a group of medicines called Luteinising hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) analogues. It is used to treat prostate cancer (in men), breast cancer, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, infertility (with other medicines) which helps to control the release of eggs from the ovaries (in women).

Goserelin is a long-acting GnRH agonist which is classified as a leutinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH) agonist. LHRH agonists work by inhibiting the production of lutenizing hormone by the pituitary gland. This stimulates the testicles to release testosterone in men and stimulates the ovaries to release estrogen in women. This medicine does not have a direct effect on the cancer but act only on the testicles or ovaries. The lack of testosterone and estrogen interferes with stimulating cell growth in testosterone or estrogen dependent cancer cells. In treatment of prostate cancer ZOLADEX LA 10.8MG are often used together with anti-androgen medications. Anti-androgens are substances which block the effects of testosterone.

Before receiving this ZOLADEX LA 10.8MG, tell your doctor if you have liver, kidney or heart problems. It is not recommended for use in children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. Your healthcare provider will inject under the skin (subcutaneous) on your stomach every four weeks (28 days). The common side effects are hot flushes, sweating, decreased sex drive and thinning of bones.
